With free agency poised to begin, fans of the Minnesota Vikings have their hopes set on the team signing one of any number of offensive linemen available, but other than being outbid for Matt Kalil, the news on the lineman front has been quiet.
HOWEVAH...it appears the Vikings might be dusting off their 'let's sign a Bears WR' free agency strategy, as Ian Rapoport just tweeted this a short while ago:
Hmmmm: A new team has entered the fold for Alshon Jeffery: The rival #Vikings. Jeffery in talks with #Colts, #Bears and #Eagles
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) March 9, 2017
Wow, is all I can say. Jeffery is a guy that has killed the Vikings, and has had to deal with a fairly significant injury history...but when healthy he's one of the best receivers in the game. In 12 games last year, he had 52 catches for over 800 yards and 15 yards a catch.
When you imagine him as a true number one deep guy, it would give the team flexibility to move guys like Stefon Diggs and Adam Thielen all over the formation, and create a ton of favorable matchups for the Vikes offense.
On the flip side, one could also speculate that if Jeffery were to sign it might speak volumes about how the Vikings feel about Laquon Treadwell moving forward. The 2016 first round pick only registered one catch in his rookie season, and dealt with nagging injuries that made him a non-factor all season.
Buckle your seat belts kids, this is getting interesting.
