If you’ve been paying attention to this year’s SB Nation Writers Mock Draft. . .and with the Minnesota Vikings not having a first round pick, the odds are that you haven’t. . .we finally got an opportunity to make a selection!
(If you want all the picks leading up to ours, the stream of this year’s mock is right here.)
There were several names discussed for our selection at #48 overall at Virtual Winter Park, but in the end we made what would be the obvious choice in the scenario that we were given and landed Indiana guard Dan Feeney with our selection.
My personal draft crush, Ohio State center/guard Pat Elflein, was already off the board thanks to the New York Jets earlier in Round 2. Even with the additions that the Vikings have made this offseason, the Minnesota Moving Company is still the team’s biggest need, and with Feeney we get a guy that would slot in at right guard. . .coincidentally, the one spot on the offensive line that Mike Zimmer has said the Vikings have an opening at.
There were some discussions of taking a running back, but the point was made that the drop-off from Feeney to the next level of guards available later in the selection process was greater than what we would find among the running backs. So, Feeney was the name that we sent to the virtual podium.
Unfortunately, since the SB Nation Writers Mock for this year is only two rounds and there are no trades, this will be the only selection that we get to make for this year’s mock. What do you think of the pick?
