Last night, the NFL Network’s Top 100 continued to roll on, and another member of the Minnesota Vikings found his way onto the list.
Xavier Rhodes, who enjoyed by far the best season of his four-year career in 2016, got onto the list at #66 overall.
After only recording two total interceptions in his first three NFL seasons, Rhodes collected five picks last season, including one that he returned 100 yards for his first NFL touchdown against the Arizona Cardinals.
“You know, that’s the quarterback’s top target,” Rhodes said in a video posted by the NFL. “You’re going to at least get six, seven, eight, nine targets a game. My whole mentality is not allowing them to catch more than one.”
I know that we’re biased here, but seriously. . .the guy that might be the best cornerback in the National Football League ranking at #66 on this list seems to be ridiculously low. I don’t know how many other corners are ranked above Rhodes on this year’s list, but I do know that the number of cornerbacks in the National Football League that I’d presently trade Xavier Rhodes straight up for numbers exactly zero.
Rhodes is entering the fifth-year option season of his rookie contract, and based on the way he’s ascended over the past couple of seasons, it appears quite likely that he is in for a substantial payday sooner rather than later.
Congratulations to Xavier Rhodes on becoming the third Minnesota Viking to be featured on this season’s NFL Network Top 100, joining Everson Griffen and Harrison Smith. We’ll keep you updated on whether or not any other members of the purple make the list.
