Summer time means that it’s time for projects, and since we’re pretty much in the dead time of the offseason, it’s time for a project to fill up the time between now and the start of the 2017 NFL regular season.
The summer project for this year, at least for yours truly, is a little something we can call Minnesota Vikings By The Numbers.
As of today, we are 100 days from kickoff of the 2017 regular season. So, starting tomorrow. . .which, after doing some quick math, I have determined is 99 days from the start of the season. . .we are going to make some determinations on who the best player to sport each number in Minnesota Vikings’ history is.
Some of these numbers are going to have some debate attached. Some of the numbers have a choice that’s pretty obvious. Guys that have had their numbers retired and Hall of Famers are pretty much locks. But, there are some out there that we will actually have to have a discussion about.
I’ll be taking the numbers from the Pro Football Reference database of players that have worn each number in Vikings’ history. If there’s actually a debate as to who should get the distinction of who the best to wear a particular number is, there will be a poll.
So, this will give us something to talk about and debate during the long dry stretch of the offseason and into the preseason. Once we get to NFL kickoff weekend, we’ll have a full roster of the greatest Minnesota Viking to wear each and every one of the 99 eligible uniform numbers.
We’ll get things underway with #99, starting tomorrow. I hope everyone enjoys it!
