The countdown to training camp is officially under way and certain members of the Minnesota Vikings will be heading down to Mankato a little early. Rookies, quarterbacks, players with less than one year and certain injured players will go down to Mankato three days before start of camp on July 23rd.
This will be the first time under coach Mike Zimmer that players will start training camp early. With the extra time that he has set aside there will be three practices and two walk throughs.
While the team will be focusing on preparing for the new season, the front office will be preparing for next season in their new 6,500 seat training facility. The contract between the Vikings and Minnesota State University ends in December and the team will not renew unless there are issues with construction.
According to ESPN Ben Goessling Zimmer said,
With the new tougher mentality Zimmer hopes that this will jump start the team for the new season and that they will be playing with the thought process of the 5-0 start versus the 8-8 end.
