Friday Open Thread: June 30, 2017

The year is half-over after today (if you’re counting in months)

Corey Fuller

Happy happy Friday, everyone!

It’s the last “work day” before a nice, long weekend, although I’m guessing today won’t be overly productive for many. Tomorrow is July, and training camp will start sometime in July, so we are ever so slowly getting closer and closer to some real football.

Around the DN since our last open thread:

Chris polishes off the 70s as he looked at number 70 in Minnesota Vikings by the Numbers.

Arif posted Norse Code Podcast Episode 185: Lazy Mayonnaise.

Bud Grant and the Vikings are making a push to get Jim Marshall into the hall-of-fame.

Vikings news from other sources:

ESPN1500 looks at how the Vikings can create cap space for potential new deals for Xavier Rhodes and Sam Bradford.

Vikings.com has offseason highlights of the running backs, a trio of Vikings defensive ends are considered to be among the all-time best, PA sat in for Wobby on the Pick 6 Mailbag, and Linval Joseph’s goal is to always be better than last year.

Around the rest of the NFL:

From the Sporting News, the Raiders inked another big deal, as they signed guard Gabe Jackson yesterday. Jackson was a third-round pick by Oakland in 2014. Oddly enough, our current O-line coach, Tony Sparano, was the Raiders’ O-line coach from 2013-2014.

We come to today’s media selection.

MTViking and I realized that we haven’t played nearly enough Lonesome George ‘round here, so here you are. I love this dude’s music. Enjoy!

We all know the rules, but in case someone is new:

-No discussion of politics or religion
-No feeding of the trolls
-This isn't a male version of The View, so leave the gender hatred at the door
-Keep vulgar language to a minimum, using spoiler tags if you must
-No pictures that could get someone fired or in serious trouble with their employer
-If you can't disagree in a civil manner, feel free to go away
-While navigating the open thread, just assume it's sarcasm

With that, the beer light is on and the bar is open. Belly up & tie one on. Don't forget to tip your waitress, & try the pickled pigs feet.
