If you haven’t seen it in the news recently, there have been a couple of stories of NFL players needing emergency rides to various places.
This ball got rolling when Buffalo Bills’ cornerback Shareece Wright was stuck in Chicago and trying to get to Buffalo for voluntary practices. So, he did what anybody with a ridiculous amount of money would do. . .he took an 8-hour Uber ride from Chicago to Buffalo. The trip wound up costing him a cool $632 (and he included a $300 tip on top of that, reportedly), but he got to upstate New York in time for the Bills’ workout.
On the heels of that, Green Bay Packers’ cornerback Davon House found himself stuck at the Minneapolis/St. Paul airport with no way to get to Wisconsin. Now, for most of us, not being able to get to Wisconsin would be a huge positive, but not so in the case of House. So, a couple of Green Bay fans picked him up at the airport and took him to where he needed to be for practice.
(Amazing how, when we were kids, our parents constantly told us not to get into cars with strangers, and now we have apps that will directly facilitate getting into cars with strangers. But I digress.)
Since this is summer and it’s road trip season. . .and since the folks from Access Vikings made it a topic on their most recent podcast. . .I thought I’d throw this out there.
If you had to take a five or six-hour road trip with any member of the Minnesota Vikings, who would it be?
I don’t actually know any of the members of the Vikings personally or anything, but from what information we’ve got, I think that Linval Joseph would be at the top of this list. By all accounts, he’s a pretty funny guy, and if you’re going to be in a car with someone for a few hours, you’re going to need to keep the mood upbeat. So, I think big #98 would be my choice.
Now, if Jared Allen was still on this team, that would be an easy pick. But, he’s not.
How about you? Who would be your ideal Vikings’ road trip companion?
