Adam Thielen Taking On American Century Championship

He was the best in his threesome, but still not great

It would appear that Minnesota Vikings’ wide receiver Adam Thielen is officially a celebrity now. He’d probably disagree, but given the crowd he’s running with this weekend, it’s pretty tough to dispute.

Thielen is in Lake Tahoe for this weekend’s American Century Championship, a Pro-Am golf tournament that features a lot of big names from the world of sports and other realms of entertainment.

On Friday, Thielen played with a couple of his fellow NFL wide receivers, being grouped with former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward and current Detroit Lions wide receiver Golden Tate. Thielen may have struggled a bit on the day, carding an 80 and scoring nine “points” in the modified scoring system the tournament is using.

  • Double Eagle 10 points
  • Hole in one 8 points
  • Eagle 6 points
  • Birdie 3 points
  • Par 1 point
  • Bogie 0 points
  • Double Bogie -2 points

That might not sound great, but Thielen looked like Phil Mickelson compared to Tate and Ward. Tate shot an 85 and managed just two “points,” while Ward managed to actually card negative points while firing an 89.

On Saturday, Thielen will be part of a different group, this time being matched with current Philadelphia Eagles’ head coach Doug Pederson and actor Oliver Hudson.

If you’re interested in checking in on the tournament, SB Nation will be streaming their own live coverage from the course starting at 1 PM Central time.
