Merry Tuesday, everyone!
Well, we have some actual football stuff to talk about for the first time in what seems like forever. This time of year is always bittersweet, as it means we have to let go of summer soon, but at least we know football is here.
Around the DN since our last open thread:
Chris is down to number 45 in Minnesota Vikings by the Numbers.
Ted posted Zim Tzu, Training Camp Eve Edition.
The Vikes signed Arturo Uzdavinis, an offensive tackle, per Chris.
In a somewhat surprising move, the Vikings placed Latavius Murray on the PUP list, per Chris. I guess that minor cleanup they did right after we signed him wasn't so minor. Also going on the list was Shaan Washington.
In a not-so-surprising move, the team also placed Sharrif Floyd on the non-football injury list. I sure hate to see a guy's career end with an injury, but it's looking more likely to be the case for the Sharrif.
Chris dives into the difference between the PUP and the NFI designations.
One of the folks from SB Nation did his best to win Jared Allen's friendship while caddying for him, per Chris.
Vikings news from other sources:
Ben Goessling at ESPN looks at how Dalvin Cook is and isn't Adrian Peterson circa 2007.
At Vikings.com, Craig Peters looks at the players who are in Mankato for the first practice, and the voice of experience that Keenum brings to camp. Lindsey Young sees a confident C.J. Ham who is embracing his fullback role. In the media vault, Shurmur addressed the media yesterday, and there are a lot of other videos from day one of camp to check out.
Around the rest of the league:
From the Star Tribune, the NFL had a reality check for Packer fans. The "shareholders" think the NFL should hold the Super Bowl in Mayberry someday. I'm guessing they're the only people on earth who think that's a good idea.
Over at NFL.com, the Broncos and John Elway are together until 2021, per their latest agreement. That's great news John, why the long face?
Also at NFL.com, Lucky Whitehead wasn't so lucky in getting away with shoplifting. He was arrested and charged with petty larceny in Virginia. UPDATE: Whitehead disputes the charges, he says he wasn't in the state at the time. Also, the Cowboys cut Whitehead today, citing character concerns. Thanks to DMacAD for the heads-up.
Andrew Luck will start the season on the PUP, per NFL.com.
We come to our media selection.
Hey, need something fun to watch? Check out Favre's first game back at Lambeau after leaving the baby poop green and pee yellow. There's lots of mooing.....I mean booing.
We all know the rules, but in case someone is new:
-No discussion of politics or religion
-No feeding of the trolls
-This isn't a male version of The View, so leave the gender hatred at the door
-Keep vulgar language to a minimum, using spoiler tags if you must
-No pictures that could get someone fired or in serious trouble with their employer
-If you can't disagree in a civil manner, feel free to go away
-While navigating the open thread, just assume it's sarcasm
With that, the beer light is on and the bar is open. Belly up & tie one on. Don't forget to tip your waitress, & try the head cheese.
