On Saturday, the Minnesota Vikings made a roster change at the linebacker position, and brought in a player that already has some family ties to the current roster.
The Vikings have announced the signing of linebacker Darnell Sankey. Sankey is the cousin of running back Bishop Sankey, who is currently fighting for a spot on the Minnesota roster as well. Darnell Sankey went undrafted out of Sacramento State in 2016, and spent last year’s Training Camp season with the Denver Broncos. He was released by the Broncos, and continued his tour of the AFC West by spending time on the practice squads of both the Oakland Raiders and the Kansas City Chiefs.
To make room for him on the roster, the Vikings waived linebacker Shaan Washington, who they had put on the Physically Unable to Perform List at the start of camp with some sort of leg injury.
The signing is likely in response to an injury suffered by linebacker Kentrell Brothers in Friday’s practices. Brothers was taken off the field with a left hamstring injury, and his status is up in the air for now.
