UPDATE: According to Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press, Sharockman died of congestive heart failure.
Today, we have received word that another of the original Minnesota Vikings has passed away.
Ed Sharockman, who manned the cornerback position for the Vikings from 1961 to 1972, has passed. He was 77 years old.
Sharockman was the Vikings’ fifth-round pick in the 1961 NFL Draft out of the University of Pittsburgh. In his twelve seasons in purple, he intercepted 40 passes, which is still the third-highest total in team history. He was named one of the 50 Greatest Vikings of All Time. and was a two-time second-team All-Pro as well as a two-time Pro Bowler.
I was not fortunate to ever see Ed Sharockman in action, but if any of our older readers have any memories of him, feel free to share them below.
We send our deepest condolences to the Sharockman family in light of Ed Sharockman’s passing.
