Here are the ground rules for the Game Threads:
-Thou shalt not link illegal feeds of today's game, or I shall kick thy arse to the curb until the game is over. Do not promote then, do not mention them, do not even hint at them. Thou hast been warned.
-Thou shalt make an attempt to keep the swearing to a minimum. Understandable that it will slip occasionally, but do try to limit it. If you really feel the need to curse, use the spoiler tags to keep it covered up. We'll get the sentiment.
-Thou shalt not feed the trolls. Rather, thou shall simply point them out, and they shall be banished to the fires of Mordor. Or Wisconsin. Whichever we feel is more harsh at the time.
-Thou shalt not engage in racist, sexist, or other such insulting rhetoric. Somebody disagreeing with you does not make them racist or sexist. It means they disagree with you. Talk it out like adults.
-Thou shalt not bait the fans of other teams into trolling.
-Basically, thou shalt not be a jackwagon in the game thread.
We have made it to the "all-important" third preseason game for 2017, and once again the Minnesota Vikings have the eyes of the NFL to themselves this evening. Sunday Night Football is the host for the team's return to U.S. Bank Stadium as they take on the San Francisco 49ers in the last game where we'll see most of the meaningful players for both teams until Opening Day. I would expect the starters to play into the second half of this one, but who knows for sure what Mike Zimmer might choose to do.
So, what are we looking for this evening?
1) No significant injuries - Yep, this is still the most important thing on the list. Will be the most important thing on Thursday, too. This is the "dress rehearsal," and we don't want to see any of the major players suffer any significant injuries before then.
2) Is the starting offensive line finally set? - For the first time this preseason, we should get to see the Vikings' starting offensive line, as offensive tackle Riley Reiff should see his first game action this evening. The battle at center is apparently still being waged between Pat Elflein and Nick Easton, but the rest of the starters (Reiff, Alex Boone, Joe Berger, and Mike Remmers) will be out there this evening. Do they have enough time to develop consistent chemistry before Week 1?
3) The (defensive) kids are alright - There are several young players on the defensive side of the ball making a push to be a significant part of Minnesota's defense. Rookie defensive tackle Jaleel Johnson was very impressive last week against Seattle, fellow rookie Ben Gedeon is getting some time with the #1 defense at linebacker, and undrafted free agent Tashawn Bower is making a strong push to be part of the defensive line rotation. Can those players continue to outplay the more established veterans and get themselves onto this team?
This one should be fun to watch, folks. We need to see what this team is capable of, and tonight will hopefully give us an indication of positive things to come. Kickoff at U.S. Bank Stadium takes place in about half an hour, and we'll be here with a recap when the festivities are over with. Enjoy the game, everyone!
SKOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL VIKINGS!!!!
