After braving the frigid temperatures and extreme wind of Thursday morning’s walkthrough in Mankato—OK, so it was 55 and pretty breezy—Sam Ekstrom of Zone Coverage and I found solace in the warmth of Pennington Hall to discuss Vikings Training Camp for my debut on the Locked On Vikings podcast.
We started by discussing my first Mike Zimmer press conference shutdown answer of the year, where I asked the Vikings head coach about the Laquon Treadwell injury. (I even had the audacity to ask a follow up!) We talked about Treadwell’s hamstring and how it might be hindering a golden opportunity for him to make an impact during Michael Floyd’s suspension.
After discussing some of my general first impressions of what I have seen (Dalvin Cook!!), we went through some of the situational football that the Vikings are practicing. That led into how Sam Bradford is really establishing himself as a leader with his actions both on and off the field.
Next we went back to another line of questions I had for Zimmer in the press conference involving the weak side linebacker gig. I asked about Emmanuel Lamur and Edmond Robinson, but Zimmer offered up Ben Gedeon’s name without being prompted.
We finished up with some talk about how the offensive line might look when the season starts and the reasoning behind some of the position shuffling we have seen along the line thus far.
You can listen to the full episode here. It’s a great way to spend 15 quick minutes to catch up on everything that’s happening in Mankato. Sam is very knowledgeable and a great conversationalist—I’m sure you’ll enjoy it.
