The latest roster move for the Minnesota Vikings is one that will affect the running back depth chart, and really isn’t terribly surprising.
RB Terrell Newby released, per source
— Andrew Krammer (@Andrew_Krammer) September 1, 2017
Per Andrew Krammer of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, the Vikings will be waiving running back Terrell Newby.
Newby signed as an undrafted free agent this past offseason, having played his college ball at the University of Nebraska. He was second on the Vikings in rushing yardage this preseason, and scored the touchdown that preceded Taylor Heinicke’s scrambling two-point conversion in the preseason victory over the San Francisco 49ers.
There haven’t been any indications one way or another about whether the Vikings will attempt to bring Newby back to the practice squad, though they have generally kept a running back there in past years.
