Thirteen and three

Happy post-win Monday, everyone!

Well, 13-3. It sure is a nice place to be, isn’t it? The Vikings start their well-deserved bye week today, after handling business against the Bears yesterday to secure the #2 seed in the division. It wasn’t perfect, but they got the win and the first-round bye.

The way the game started, it seemed like it was going to be a blowout, as the Vikings defense shut down any attempt by the Bears offense, and the offense seemed to move the ball fairly well at first. That ended, and a fair amount of the offense was aided by some dumb penalties by the Bears defense (a couple of those penalties bailed out some badly under thrown balls by Keenum). The offense never really found its groove, with the exception of a couple nice drives, but they scored enough to stay in control pretty much the entire game. I am a bit concerned, as the offense will have to do more in order to get the team where they want to go. They can’t count on the defense to hold playoff teams down like they did yesterday.

It wasn’t all bad on the offensive side of the ball, though. Murray had a really nice day running the ball, finishing with 111 yards on 20 carries with 2 TDs. Diggs, Thielen, and Morgan all contributed, and the offensive line performed well.

I can’t really say enough about the defense. They shut down the opening drive, and pretty much did that same thing the rest of the game. They allowed only 3 Bears points all day (the other 7 came on a punt return), and they further established themselves as the league’s top defense. This defense is very good, I love watching ‘em.

The links may be brief, but I’ll try to add more in the morning if I get time.

Around the DN since our last open thread:

The Vikings’ divisional playoff game is set for 3:40 PM central time on January 14.

Ted has all your buy/sell advice in the Stock Market Report: Bears.

The Minnesota Vikings’ 2018 opponents are now set.

In next year’s draft, the Vikings can pick no higher than 25th. I’m thinking 32nd.

Here is the full schedule for Wild Card weekend.

Chris has the post-game wrap-up.

Other Vikings news and news from around the league:

Over at Vikings.com, see Coach Zimmer’s post-game locker room speech, hear the coach address the media and tell them that there is no damn curse (well said, coach), see full highlights from the game, and there’s lots more to sift through in the media vault.

What a difference one year makes, the Raiders have fired Jack Del Rio, per NFL.com. A year ago, there was talk about him being coach of the year.

Get all the week 17 scores and highlights, from NFL.com.

Blair Walsh walshed one for the team he walshed one against in the 2015 playoffs. The former Vikings kicker missed a 48 yarder that would have won the game for Seattle, from the Seattle Times. I’m trying not to laugh, and it’s not working.

We come to our media selection.

Ahhh, my favorite DN tradition. I hope to play this three more times this season, after today.

Again, we all know the rules, but in case someone is new:

-No discussion of politics or religion

-No feeding of the trolls

-This isn't a male version of The View, so leave the gender hatred at the door

-Keep the bad language to a minimum (using the spoiler tags, if you must)

-Speaking of which, if discussing a newer show or movie, please use spoiler tags

-No pictures that could get someone fired or in serious trouble with their employer

-If you can't disagree in a civil manner, feel free to go away

-While navigating the open thread, just assume it's sarcasm

With that, the beer light is on and the bar is open. Belly up & tie one on. Don't forget to tip your waitress, & try the head cheese
