Just a few more days until some long-awaited Vikings playoff football.

Merry Tuesday, DN faithful!

Man, this waiting is killing me, I want to see the fellas back on the field pummeling something. We’re slowly trudging our way through the week, as we await Sunday’s match-up between our beloved Purple and the Saints. I like our chances, I think the Vikings defense matches up well against the Saints offense (it helps to have a couple linebackers with corner back speed to take away those short and intermediate routes the Saints like to use. If they can smother those first couple reads, the line will have time to get to Brees. Our ends are disciplined, and they’ll have to make sure to keep Brees in the pocket. If they do this, they’ll contain the offense.

Then, our offense will need to get some points on the board. This Vikings defense at home with a lead is dominant, and can suffocate an offense.

Around the DN since our last open thread:

The Vikings surprised a life-long fan with tickets for her 100th birthday. Tickets to the game, I assume. A speeding ticket wouldn’t be a very good gift, and I’m pretty sure they aren’t authorized to give those out.

Do you have a question about the Vikings (or other subjects, it doesn’t hurt to ask. Remember, there are no stupid questions, only stupid people)? Well, ask Roughing the Podcast, and Ted or Di might just have an answer.

SB Nation has a playoff schedule, brackets, and a road map to the Super Bowl.

Vikings news from other places on the web:

Over at, the players say they have to make the most of this opportunity as they enjoy their hard-earned bye week, Coach Zimmer addressed the media yesterday, watch a highlight reel of Adam Thielen’s 2017 regular season, and there is a ton more to look through in the media vault.

1500ESPN takes a look at the Vikes-Saints game, and they see 10 stats that may make the difference.

News from around the rest of the NFL:

CBS Sports reported that the Browns were willing to give up one of their first round picks (would have been the #4 overall pick in the draft) to the Patriots for Jimmy Garoppolo.

We come to today’s media selection.

Tom Petty hit the nail on the head with this one.

Again, we all know the rules, but in case someone is new:

-No discussion of politics or religion
-No feeding of the trolls
-This isn’t a male version of The View, so leave the gender hatred at the door
-Keep the bad language to a minimum (using the spoiler tags, if you must)
-Speaking of which, if discussing a newer show or movie, please use spoiler tags
-No pictures that could get someone fired or in serious trouble with their employer
-If you can’t disagree in a civil manner, feel free to go away
-While navigating the open thread, just assume it’s sarcasm

With that, the beer light is on and the bar is open. Belly up & tie one on. Don’t forget to tip your waitress, & try the head cheese
