Happy Friday, everyone!
Ah yes, the one day of the work week that can occasionally beat Monday in being the best day of the week. Today is the day we can start finalizing our weekend smoker and grilling plans, stock up on cold...........ummmm....water..........yeah, right, and be totally useless all day at work as we dream of smoked meat, fishing, and of course, Vikings football. The Vikes play the Lions this weekend, in the first of a string of conference games. The team can take control of the NFC North with a strong month of play, and they will do just that, of course (I hope).
Around the DN since our last open thread:
John Gennaro wants your help in launching the Daily Norseman Podcast.
Eric has your Vikings-Lions week 9 Preview.
Skelly10 shared the November 1 Vikings injury report.
Vikings news from other sources and news from around the rest of the NFL:
From the Pioneer Press, Stefon Diggs missed yesterday’s practice, but expects to play. Zimmer must tell them to say that they expect to play, you hardly ever hear one of the players say that he probably won’t play. A player could be in a body cast with an Ecmo machine hooked up, and he’d say something like “yeah, I’m a little banged up, but I don’t expect it to keep me out on Sunday. I expect to play.”
At Vikings.com, catch the NFL Playbook crew preview the Vikings-Lions, hear from OC John DeFilippo at his Thursday presser, and there’s lots more to sift through in the media vault.
At NFL.com, Hue Jackson said that Cleveland’s move to fire him was premature. Ummmmmm......Hue? Here is your teams’ records in your time there:
-2016: 1-15 Everyone says that it can’t get worse, the Browns say “oh yeah? hold my beer”
Total record in Cleveland: 3-36-1
In Hue’s defense, getting 2.5 wins in a half season in Cleveland should land him in the coaching hall of fame, so he may have a point. I actually think Hue could have been a good coach, and still may be, but he got his two shots at the two worst possible spots. That Browns organization has something very wrong deep within its 200 levels of management. I recommend an exorcist.
Last night on Thursday Night Football, the 49ers and the always deadly Nick Mullens (I don’t know who he is, either. I think he was a Christian Rock singer or something) slaughtered the floundering Raiders 34-3. I guess if you have to make your first start, who better to play against than the Raiders. That team is not going in the direction you want to go.
We come to today’s media selection:
Hey, I hardly ever get to post on Friday anymore, so here’s my favoritist Friday song in the history of Friday songs. Here is the man, the legend, the one and only George Jones, with a little help from the cast from Looney Tunes.
Again, we all know the rules, but in case someone is new:
- No discussion of politics or religion
- No feeding of the trolls
- This isn’t a male version of The View, so leave the gender hatred at the door
- Keep the bad language to a minimum (using the spoiler tags, if you must)
- Speaking of which, if discussing a newer show or movie, please use spoiler tags
- No pictures that could get someone fired or in serious trouble with their employer
- If you can’t disagree in a civil manner, feel free to go away
- While navigating the open thread, just assume it’s sarcasm
With that, the beer light is on and the bar is open. Belly up and tie one on. Don’t forget to tip your waitress, and try the knoephla soup
