On Wednesday, the Minnesota Vikings released their initial injury report as they began preparations for their big game in Foxborough against the New England Patriots on Sunday afternoon. Four players sat out of Wednesday’s practice session, and a couple of them were pretty big names.
Both wide receiver Stefon Diggs and cornerback Xavier Rhodes were listed as not having practiced for the purple on Wednesday afternoon. Diggs, who had been listed in previous weeks with a rib injury, apparently isn’t dealing with that issue anymore. Now it appears he has a knee injury that he must have suffered during Sunday night’s victory over Green Bay. We’ll have to monitor how that progresses over the course of this week.
It’s not a surprise that Rhodes didn’t practice on Wednesday, given the way he left the field on Sunday night. What is surprising, however, is that head coach Mike Zimmer said that Rhodes has a “very good chance” to play on Sunday afternoon. Which, if we’ve learned anything about Zimmer over these past four-plus year, is code for “dude isn’t going to play on Sunday.” But we’ll see how that shakes out, too.
Both wide receiver Chad Beebe (hamstring) and tight end David Morgan (knee) continue to be sidelined with their injuries.
Here is a full synopsis of the Vikings’ first practice report of the week.
Did not participate: WR Chad Beebe (hamstring), WR Stefon Diggs (knee), TE David Morgan (knee), CB Xavier Rhodes (hamstring)
Limited participation: LB Ben Gedeon (concussion), WR Adam Thielen (calf)
Full participation: G Tom Compton (knee), LB Eric Kendricks (chest), G Mike Remmers (low back)
We’ll be continuing to monitor how the Vikings’ injury situation shakes out as we get closer to Sunday, particularly the situation with Diggs and Rhodes.
