If you’re looking for a positive sign that Minnesota Vikings’ wide receiver Stefon Diggs will take the field on Sunday when the purple host the Detroit Lions at U.S. Bank Stadium. . .well, this isn’t it.
Courtney Cronin of ESPN is reporting that the Vikings will be promoting wide receiver Chad Beebe from the practice squad before Sunday’s game.
Beebe, the son of former Buffalo Bills’ wide receiver Don Beebe, signed with the Vikings as an undrafted free agent out of Northern Illinois. He had a pretty solid preseason, catching nine passes for 95 yards and two touchdowns in four preseason games. With the Vikings’ glut of talent at wide receiver, he was let go as part of the team’s final cuts, but was signed to the practice squad right away.
The Vikings appear to be playing things cautiously with Diggs, who suffered a rib injury in last week’s loss to the New Orleans Saints. With the Vikings’ bye coming next week, if he were to sit this week he would have two weeks to get ready for the team’s Week 11 contest at Soldier Field against the Chicago Bears.
The Vikings have not yet announced the corresponding roster move they would have to make in order to put Beebe on the 53-man roster. When they do, we’ll have an update to this story.
