On Sunday afternoon in the Minnesota Vikings’ victory over the Detroit Lions, Vikings’ defensive end Danielle Hunter played what might have been the best game of his career. On Wednesday, he officially got the recognition that pretty much everyone figured was coming.

Hunter was officially named the NFC Defensive Player of the Week for Week 9 of the NFL season on Wednesday.

As a part of the defense that racked up a franchise-record ten sacks of Matthew Stafford on Sunday, Hunter led the way with 3.5 of them. In addition to that, he also had nine tackles, four quarterback pressures, and a fumble recovery that he took into the end zone for a 32-yard touchdown to put the game out of reach.

This is the first time in his three-plus seasons in the NFL that Hunter has been recognized as the NFC Defensive Player of the Week, and he is the eighth player to receive that recognition during the tenure of head coach Mike Zimmer.

Hunter currently leads the NFL in sacks with 11.5, and has recorded at least one sack in eight of the Vikings’ nine games this season.

Congratulations to Danielle Hunter on winning this week’s NFC Defensive Player of the Week Award!
