Another big game coming up for the purple and gold, ,a win would be HUGE in getting them into position for the playoffs.

NFL: Minnesota Vikings-Training Camp Brad Rempel-USA TODAY Sports

Merry Wednesday, everyone!

Many apologies for yesterday’s thread (or lack thereof). A billion thanks to Skoldiers for putting together a fanpost. Life got in the way, and then work got in the way, and yadda yadda yadda. My life gets much calmer after this week, so it shouldn’t be an issue going forward.

Hey, soooooo DeFilippo is the early favorite for the HC gig in Green Bay? I would ask you your opinion up here in the words (which don’t really exist), but that’s kinda pointless since I’d be typing the question and not able to hear your answers, so I’d actually be talking to myself, which is fun and all, but it usually causes people to stare (sometimes they’ll even notify a manager or some other authority figure when the conversation gets too animated or if an argument breaks out), so I think I’ll just put a poll down yonder so you can actually answer the question.

Personally, I have nothing against the guy, but I haven’t seen anything out of him as an OC yet that would make me cry if he did leave. He may become a good OC down the road, but I won’t be disappointed like I was when we found out Shurmur was leaving for New York last year. We could always hope for a meltdown in New York. Shurmur leaves, vowing to never be a head coach again. He comes back here as an offensive coordinator & helps guide the team to a bunch of Super Bowls. I’d love to see what he could do with the talent this offense has on it.

Around the DN since our last open thread:

Eric looks at five-game changing plays from Sunday’s Vikings-Patriots match-up.

As I mentioned in the words up above (which don’t actually exist), John DeFilippo is the early favorite for the open HC gig in Green Bay.

Chris shares his thoughts on DeFilippo’s tenure as OC thus far, and he’s spot-on.

Lucas Ailport pens an open letter to John DeFilippo.

Luft Krigare posted Good Morning Gjallarhorn Episode 037 - In The Raw:Where’s the Motivation? I’m not sure if this a rhetorical question, but the motivation is over on the defensive side of the ball. If it is a rhetorical question, well, then the motivation is rhetorically over on the defensive side of the ball.......or something.

From Chris, the Vikings are to work out CFL star Bo Levi Mitchell. Bo Levi. We almost need to hire Jim Bob Cooter if Bo Levi Mitchell makes the team, don’t we? Bo Levi most recently played quarterback for the Calgary Stampeders up in Canada, eh?

Jonah Dylan calls Monday’s Vikings-Seahawks game a must-win game. I’m not sure it’s a MUST win game, but I’d say it’s a “they dang-sure better win or the playoffs are going to be a WHOLE lot harder to make, and making them would require the offense to miraculously return from the dead” game. I suppose must-win is easier to type, and easier to understand, and it kinda rolls of the tongue a little better when you say it out loud.

Vikings news from other sources and news from around the rest of the NFL:

Over in the Vikings.com media vault, catch Coach Zimmer’s Monday presser, and see Deion Sanders on NFL Gameday telling why he still ‘believes wholeheartedly’ in the Vikings (I’ve always liked Deion, but I’m starting to like him even more, he makes a lot of sense).

ESPN has a list of top times clocked during touchdown runs for each position group.

From ABC News, the NFL has suspended 49ers long snapper Kyle Nelson for 10 games due to violating the league’s policy on performance-enhancing substances, which was Nelson’s second such violation in the NFL, hence the ten-game suspension. Losing a player at a key position like long-snapper will likely be enough to prevent the 49ers from making the playoffs this year.

We come to today’s media selection:

No particular reason for this song, or maybe there is, but it’s Motley Crue, so there is no need for a reason. Enjoy!

Again, we all know the rules, but in case someone is new:

  • No discussion of politics or religion
  • No feeding of the trolls
  • This isn’t a male version of The View, so leave the gender hatred at the door
  • Keep the bad language to a minimum (using the spoiler tags, if you must)
  • Speaking of which, if discussing a newer show or movie, please use spoiler tags
  • No pictures that could get someone fired or in serious trouble with their employer
  • If you can’t disagree in a civil manner, feel free to go away
  • While navigating the open thread, just assume it’s sarcasm

With that, the beer light is on and the bar is open. Belly up and tie one on. Don’t forget to tip your waitress, and try the offense. It’s full of talent, but it’s easy to catch since it isn’t really going anywhere.
