Merry Wednesday, everyone!
Is everyone keeping up with the Olympics? Me either. My wife likes the dancing on ice stuff, so I’ve seen bits & pieces of that mess when I walk by the room, I don’t like these “sports” with subjective grading systems, I’m immediately suspicious & assume that the game is rigged. Then again, I kinda think that about the NFL at times too. I also don’t like all the tear-jerky stories the sportscasters babble about for what seems like hours, just show the race so I can laugh when someone falls down or wipes out. Anyhow, I’m just hoping Mary Lou Rettin wins, she seems nice.
Around the DN since our last open thread:
Chris shared the Ben Goessling update that sheds some light on the Shariff Floyd contract situation.
Chris also shared a story that shows that we could never guess some of the factors that go into a player’s decision on where to sign. Ladanian Tomlinson’s 2010 decision between the Vikings and Jets came down to.........you’ll have to read the story.
Vikings news from other sources and news from around the NFL:
I’ve worked for days to complete this, and I’ll share it with you all for FREE! It’s my first mock power ball drawing of 2018, and you’ll only find it here on the Daily Norseman Open Thread. Here you go; the winning numbers are 5-18-21-33-38 and the powerball is 2. I may do another later this year, but I’m not sure, they’re a lot of work.
Courtney Cronin at ESPN takes a look at how a deal between Cousins and the Vikings may be structured. I honestly doubt the Vikings are going to throw a big contract at Cousins, and I hope they don’t. But, who knows?
Eric Smith at Vikings.com looks at the ins and outs of the franchise tag.
From the Strib, the Dolphins gave Jarvis Landry the non-exclusive franchise tag, which will likely pay Landry $16 million-ish. The non-exclusive tag allows another team to sign Landry to a better offer, but they’d give up two first-round picks to the Dolphins if the Dolphins don’t match that offer. My guess is he’ll be playing in Miami.
We come to today’s media selection.
Hey, it’s been a while since we watched some drunk people doing drunk people things. Here you go!
Again, we all know the rules, but in case someone is new:
-No discussion of politics or religion
-No feeding of the trolls
-This isn’t a male version of The View, so leave the gender hatred at the door
-Keep the bad language to a minimum (using the spoiler tags, if you must)
-Speaking of which, if discussing a newer show or movie, please use spoiler tags
-No pictures that could get someone fired or in serious trouble with their employer
-If you can’t disagree in a civil manner, feel free to go away
-While navigating the open thread, just assume it’s sarcasm
With that, the beer light is on and the bar is open. Belly up & tie one on. Don’t forget to tip your waitress, & try the tiger meat.
