Another day, another QB conversation. Where’s the Tylenol?

Merry Tuesday, everyone!

Well, we have some news on the QB front, which is actually news that nothing happened, but news that there is no news is still news, so...... @yay@. Yes, the Vikings (thankfully) aren’t franchising Keenum. I mean, no, the Vikings aren’t franchising Keenum. That means they’ll either come to terms with him on a deal (I’m all for it if it’s a reasonable price and with the understanding that he’ll be competing with someone for the starting spot. cough.....Teddy....cough), or he’ll be taking his services elsewhere as a starter. If he does leave, I wish him well. I’m thankful that he, and not Shaun Hill, was the QB2 going into last season. It was a fun year, and even though the ending was.......beyond horrible, and something I still don’t care to talk about, I’m still thankful we got to watch that season unfold (and I’m still thankful to fivefingers for those yummy cigars). I’d rather ride & get bucked off than sit in the stands & watch.

What does the non-tag mean for the team’s QB situation? Not a lot, but a little. It doesn’t give us any specific insight into what the team will do at the QB position. However, it does indicate that the team has a plan in mind, because they didn’t need to tag Keenum out of desperation. Either they plan to sign Keenum to a deal and are in negotiaions, or they plan to sign Teddy or Sam to a deal and are in negotiations, or they have someone else targeted and are certain they can get a deal done. If they had no solution, they would have likely paid the one-year premium on Keenum. I’m hoping Teddy’s knee is healed like AD’s was circa 2012, they lock him up to a long-term deal, and he & wins multiple rings with the purple and gold before retiring a Viking in about 15 -20 years. Will that happen? Time will tell.

Around the DN since our last open thread:

Saxyprince posted Climbing the Pocket: Episode 69 [Black Panther and Franchise QBs].

As I mentioned above, the team is not expected to place the franchise tag on Keenum, per Chris.

More and more people are talking about Cousins going to the Vikings, Chris has a roundup of all the talk/rumors about the potential signing. The “more and more people” Chris is referring to are those in the sports media, and it’s the off-season, sooooooooo......yeah, there’s a salt block somewhere around here. Hey, if the team signs him, I’ll be cheering for him as loud as anyone, but I just don’t see it. Then again, the front office & coaches know more than me about this stuff, so I’ll defer to their judgement.

Coach Zimmer and Rick Spielman will speak at the combine, per Chris.

Ohhhhhhhhh, you meant the NFL SCOUTING combine? Man, I waited here all night. I need a shower, I’m itchy.

Vikings news from other sources and news from around the league:

From Vikings.com, Wobby opens the Pick 6 Mailbag, NFLN’s Total Access crew discusses the Vikings’ QB situation, and there’s more to sift through in the media vault.

From NFL.com, the NFL plans to fine Jerry Jones more than $2 million. I didn’t read why, I’m sure it’s posturing by the NFL, and it was fully planned with Jones, WWF style. I’m waiting for folding chairs to be used in NFL games at some point. Besides, Jones probably keeps that much in his shoe for emergencies.

Also at NFL.com, the Chiefs have will get a 2nd round pick and a fourth from the Rams for Marcus Peters, a trade which happened a couple days ago, but the terms were just released. In a similar story that is not printed anywhere except in my mind, but is very factual, the Vikings are NOT trading Trae Waynes. Hmmmm, interesting.

With that, we come to today’s media selection.

I wanted to find a song to ring in the upcoming NFL combine, and this is pretty fitting (pun intended). Here you go. This is SFW as far as I know, but I couldn’t listen to the whole thing, so I can’t say for sure. Enjoy!

Again, we all know the rules, but in case someone is new:

-No discussion of politics or religion
-No feeding of the trolls
-This isn’t a male version of The View, so leave the gender hatred at the door
-Keep the bad language to a minimum (using the spoiler tags, if you must)
-Speaking of which, if discussing a newer show or movie, please use spoiler tags

With that, the beer light is on and the bar is open. Belly up & tie one on. Don’t forget to tip your waitress, & try the tiger meat.
