At this point, we don’t know who the starting quarterback of the Minnesota Vikings is going to be in 2018. However, the dominoes are starting to fall, and it now appears that we know one person that it won’t be.
The guy that stepped into the breach this past season and helped the Vikings to a 13-3 record and their first playoff victory since 2009.
When free agency opens Wednesday, former Vikings’ QB Case Keenum intends to sign with the Denver Broncos, sources tell ESPN.

First QB domino has fallen.
QB race is on.
According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Case Keenum will be signing with the Denver Broncos when free agency starts on Wednesday.
We all know Keenum’s story by now. Signed as an afterthought last offseason, he stepped in after Sam Bradford was injured in the season opener. Counting the postseason, the Vikings went 12-4 in games that Keenum started in 2017, and he decided that he didn’t want to wait for the other pieces to fall in place before seeking his fortune elsewhere.
Schefter doesn’t give any numbers as a part of his reporting, but I’m assuming that the numbers for Keenum are going to be very high. He’ll undoubtedly be the starter for the Broncos, but Denver could still draft a quarterback with their #5 overall pick in this year’s draft, leaving that player to sit behind Keenum for a year or two until they deem him ready.
It will be interesting to see how the numbers shake out for Keenum. However, I’m pretty happy for him. It’s always nice to see a guy that was pretty much written off come out and do something big, and he gave us one of the best seasons of Vikings’ football in recent memory in 2017. Yeah, it ended badly, but. . .well, if you’re a fan of this team, just about every season ends badly in some way, shape, or form. Keenum gave us a hell of a ride on the way there, though.
So, the first piece in the 2018 NFL quarterback puzzle is in place. When will the Vikings make their move? Nobody knows, but when they do, we will have it for you right here as soon as we can.
