As we continue to update what’s going on throughout the NFC North (as well as with the Minnesota Vikings) in free agency, it’s becoming clearer that the Chicago Bears are not messing around in their quest to give their young quarterback some serious weaponry.
Numerous sources on social media are reporting that the Bears are finalizing a four-year deal with former Atlanta Falcons’ wide receiver Taylor Gabriel.
Gabriel was undrafted in 2014, and spent his first two years with the Cleveland Browns. He was then waived by the Browns and claimed by the Falcons, and had a bit of a breakout year in 2016. He caught 35 passes for 579 yards and six touchdowns that season, and was a bit of a “gadget” player in the Falcons’ offense. He tailed off a bit this season, but his signing with Chicago gives the Bears a serious option in the slot in their offense.
Gabriel joins wide receiver Allen Robinson and tight end Trey Burton as players that are apparently ticketed for Chicago when the free agent signing period officially opens on Wednesday at 3:00 PM Central time.
Once again, we’ll be tracking all of the NFC North free agency activity here, but we’ll obviously be emphasizing the news coming out of Eagan. . .as soon as any more develops.
