Happy peak-o’-the-week, y’all!
Wow, I go do some work for a while & everything goes crazy. Many thanks to MarkSP18 for posting a second open thread yesterday. Like Cousin Eddy’s s***er, the first one was full.
So, it looks like the Vikings signed a QB. Now it’s time to cheer him on and hope he proves me and others wrong. I honestly hope I’m wrong on this one, but I didn’t care for signing any player for that much money. It seems to go be a 180 from the strategy the team has implemented since Zimmer got here, but hey, it’s the decision, so now we cheer for Kirk and hope he becomes even better in a well-run organization.
I’m going to say this as well. I love Teddy Bridgewater, I think that kid is a class act, and the kind of guy I would like my son to look up to, if he chooses to look up to an athlete. I didn’t think I’d see him in a uniform besides the purple and gold, but it’s looking like that’s the case. What might have been. He was poised to take the leap in 2016, and he got screwed by whichever deranged football god hates our team. I hope he goes on to have a Hall-of-Fame career, all the best to him if he does, in fact, leave. The Jets will be my second favorite team if he goes there. If you say anything bad about the kid in the comments, I’ll overreact, so don’t. There’s your warning.
Around the DN since our last open thread:
Saxyprince posted Climbing the Podcast: Episode 71 [Tamper Proof Pod]. They’re going to have to make tamper-proof pods to seal the laundry soap in, since these idiots started that stupid trend or whatever it is. Get a hobby, kids.
Trey Burton, rumored to have been on the Vikings’ radar, wasn’t so lucky, as he looks to be signing with the Bears.
Chris shared the report from Schefter that Bradford will sign with the Cardinals. All the best to Sam, he made 2016 watchable, despite stepping into a 5-alarm inferno. My liver is still thankful that Shaun Hill wasn’t our starter for that season.
Wludford let us know about the numbers said to be involved in the Cousins deal, and the expectations that will go along with it.
Ted also shared his thoughts on the Cousins signing.
Breaking T made some shirts to celebrate the signing.
Chris wonders if Robison and Murray will be cap casualties.
Chris shared the report that Teddy will be signing with the Jets. Dammit.
Chris has a tracker where you can keep up on the latest signings from free agency.
Vikings news from other sources and news from around the rest of the league:
Look, there’ll be 15,369,632,268 stories about the Cousins signing, so I’m not going to link them all. Just talk about it in the comments, I’ll be sure to get another thread posted if we need one. I’m not linking any stories about Teddy signing, either, because I don’t like the fact that it looks like he’s not our QBOTF anymore. Nothing at all against Cousins, I just love Teddy, he’s a good kid.
Here’s a link to the media vault at Vikings.com, so ahead and sift through the stories, there’s some good film breakdown & such on Cousins. It’s late, I’m tired, and it’ll be another early morning, so I don’t have time to link all of them. Make sure you lock up when you leave.
From NFL.com, the Jets are keeping Josh McCown by signing him to a one-year $10 million deal. Not a bad deal to be a backup.
We come to today’s media selection.
Alright kids, it’s time to cheer on our new QB, here’s a little AC/DC to get us started.
Again, we all know the rules, but in case someone is new:
-No discussion of politics or religion
-No feeding of the trolls
-This isn’t a male version of The View, so leave the gender hatred at the door
-Keep the bad language to a minimum (using the spoiler tags, if you must)
-Speaking of which, if discussing a newer show or movie, please use spoiler tags
-No pictures that could get someone fired or in serious trouble with their employer
-If you can’t disagree in a civil manner, feel free to go away
-While navigating the open thread, just assume it’s sarcasm
With that, the beer light is on and the bar is open. Belly up & tie one on. Don’t forget to tip your waitress, & try the tiger meat.
