Merry Monday, everyone!
Well, this free agency period has been quite different for we Vikings fans than what we’ve become accustomed to, hasn’t it? We haven’t seen the front office be this aggressive in a very long time. The team will have to continue to improve in their drafting, because with more cap money tied up, there’ll be less free cash for keeping and signing those second-tier guys, and rookies will be called upon to contribute more in the starting lineup and as depth. The coaching philosophy will have to adapt to this new approach from the front office, so we’ll see what happens.
Around the DN since our last open thread:
MarkSP18 has wave one of his post-free agency mock drafts. Technically, it’s not post-free agency since free-agency didn’t end, but then again, none of those free agents are actually free, so whatever.
Chris wonder why you wouldn’t pick Minneapolis over New York. I agree.
Ted was here with a Vikings Free Agency Stock Market Report.
Saxyprince posted Climbing the Podcast: Episode 72 [WELCOME TO THE NEW AGE].
Chris has version 3.0 of the 2018 Minnesota Vikings Mock Draft Database.
Wludford has a tale about more green garbage.
Chris posted a video of Kirk Cousins’ son being awesome.
Chris, Ted, and the gang are keeping you up to speed on Vikings free agency moves with the free agency tracker.
Vikings news from other sources and news from around the league:
At Vikings.com, hear the media talk with the newest Viking, Sheldon Richardson, and Richardson also sat down for a one-on-one with Wobby. Also listen to Zimmer’s media address, and hear from Rick Spielman on free-agency thus far and what lies ahead.
The Raiders traded Cordarrelle Patterson to the Patriots, per NFL.com. The Patriots got the ex-Viking for almost nothing, trading a 5th round pick to the Raiders in exchange for the Raiders’ 6th round pick and Patterson. I guess it’s come full circle now, since the Vikings had to trade up in the 2013 draft to pick Patterson with the 29th pick, which they acquired from the Patriots.
From the Sporting News, the Jets have moved up to the third spot in the draft after trading away a boatload of picks to the Colts. In order to move up three spots, the Jets gave up their #6 pick in the first round of this year’s draft, two second round picks in this year’s draft, and their second round pick in the 2019 draft. That’s a LOT of draft capital just to move up three spots.
We come to today’s media selection.
Hey, here’s a great one from Dire Straits, an under-appreciated group from the 70s and 80s.
Again, we all know the rules, but in case someone is new:
-No discussion of politics or religion
-No feeding of the trolls
-This isn’t a male version of The View, so leave the gender hatred at the door
-Keep the bad language to a minimum (using the spoiler tags, if you must)
-Speaking of which, if discussing a newer show or movie, please use spoiler tags
-No pictures that could get someone fired or in serious trouble with their employer
-If you can’t disagree in a civil manner, feel free to go away
-While navigating the open thread, just assume it’s sarcasm
With that, the beer light is on and the bar is open. Belly up & tie one on. Don’t forget to tip your waitress, & try the tiger meat.
