It’s a day later than it usually is, ladies and gentlemen, but we are back this afternoon with the latest version of the 2018 Minnesota Vikings Mock Draft Database. This is either going to be the second-to-last or third-to-last version of the Database for this year. As always, I’ll see if I can bang one out either the day before or the day of the 2018 NFL Draft, but we’ll see what time will permit.
In any case, this week’s version of our Database is up to our max of 100 Mock Drafts from across the internet, and nearly half of them have been updated since last week. Coupled with a few I had to add to get up to 100 that are just slightly older, and there’s plenty of new data that we’ve added since last week’s Database. So, let’s take a look at what we have this week.
With that, let’s get to the Database for this week.

With there now being 100 mocks in the Database, there’s no need to differentiate between how many picks a player receives and what percentage of the Database that represents, since they’re the same number. Hopefully that will make things a bit easier to digest.
As you can see from reading the picks, the offensive linemen still dominate the first round projections for the Vikings. This week, they make up 73% of the first round selections, meaning that nearly three out of every four drafts are projecting the Vikings to address the offensive line with the 30th overall selection. However, our leader from last week. . .and throughout the entire Mock Draft Database process for this year. . .isn’t quite as dominant as he’s been in recent weeks.
Texas El-Paso guard Will Hernandez still has the most selections among draft experts, but he actually lost a bit from last week. This week, Hernandez has 23% of all selections, which is slightly down from the nearly 27% he had last week. It’s been a while since he had a decline, and it’s not a large one this week, but things are becoming a bit more varied.
In second place behind Hernandez is Georgia guard Isaiah Wynn. This week, Wynn has done something that nobody except Hernandez has done in this year’s Database. . .record double-digit selections. Wynn is the choice of 12% of the mock drafters in our Database this week. Just behind him is another riser, UCLA tackle Kolton Miller. Miller came up just short of double figures this week, as his name appears in our Database nine times.
Ohio State guard Billy Price continues his strong showing with eight selections, and Texas tackle Connor Williams is just behind him with seven picks. After that, we see a three-way tie between Oklahoma tackle Orlando Brown, Notre Dame tackle Mike McGlinchey, and Iowa center James Daniels. Each of them appear four times in this week’s Database. The offensive line picks are rounded out by Mississippi State tackle Martinas Rankin and Oregon tackle Tyrell Crosby, each of whom held steady with their one selection from last week.
Defensive backs are once again in second place among the different position groups, as they appear 17 times in our Mock Draft Database for this week. Once again, Central Florida cornerback Mike Hughes leads the way for the DBs, as he is the choice of seven of the 100 mock drafters we’ve put into this week’s Database. Louisville cornerback Jaire Alexander appears four times this week, and Iowa cornerback Joshua Jackson is right behind him with three selections. The other three defensive back selections are split between three players, including a new arrival in our Database in Alabama safety Ronnie Harrison. He gets one selection in our Database this week, as do Auburn cornerback Carlton Davis and Colorado cornerback Isaiah Oliver.
With offensive linemen and defensive backs accounting for 90 of the 100 selections in this week’s Database, that doesn’t leave a whole lot of room for anyone else. The defensive line, which had been in second place among position groups throughout much of this process, now accounts for just five of the selections this week. Those five picks are split between five different players.
- Florida defensive tackle Taven Bryan
- Michigan defensive tackle Maurice Hurst
- Stanford defensive tackle Harrison Phillips
- Alabama defensive tackle Da’ron Payne
- Boston College defensive end Harold Landry
The next-highest group is actually our pass catchers. There are three of them in the Database this week, each of whom garnered one selection. South Dakota State tight end Dallas Goedert and Notre Dame receiver Equanimeous St. Brown each appear once. Along with them, in a bit of a surprise, is Alabama wide receiver Calvin Ridley, who someone apparently thinks is going to drop all the way to #30 overall. I mean, I don’t see it happening, but it’s not my mock, and it adds yet another name to the list of players that are projected to our favorite team.
Just one linebacker in our Database this week, as Boise State linebacker Leighton Vander Esch holds steady from last week. And, rounding things out, Georgia running back Nick Chubb is still representing the running back position with his one selection.
With that, let’s move into our graphical depictions for this week. First off, we have this week’s Donut Graph, which gives us a percentage for each of the 26 players that appear in the first round of this week’s Database only. You can click the graphic to embiggen it for easier reading.
As always, we follow that up with the Jell-o salad graph, which is tracking the rise and fall of every single one of the 40 players that have been projected to be drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in various mock drafts over the past eight weeks.
That’s what we’ve got for this week, folks. Next week, we’ll be back once again with more updated information on 100 Mock Drafts across the internet and what they’re projecting for the Minnesota Vikings when the 2018 NFL Draft kicks off on 26 April.
