The Minnesota Vikings have traded up. . .again. . .and they’ve selected a kicker with the pick.
Yes, a kicker.
With the 167th pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, the Minnesota Vikings have selected Daniel Carlson, a kicker from Auburn University.
Gotta be honest. . .I was not expecting the Vikings to take a kicker in this year’s Draft, but here we are. I guess Kai Forbath had better hope that he’s renting and not buying in the Twin Cities.
Lance Zierlein of NFL.com actually had a fifth-round grade on Carlson, so this appears to be right around where he should have gone.
Kicker with good size and a strong leg for both field goal and kickoff duties. Carlson put together two very strong efforts in 2015 and 2016, but struggled with his accuracy in 2017. He has the talent and mechanics to be taken on the third day of the draft and become an early contributor as long as his ball striking and confidence are where they need to be.
So, the Vikings how have just two picks remaining, both in the sixth round.
