2018 NFL Draft: Minnesota Vikings select Devante Downs

A linebacker rounds out the Vikings’ 2018 draft class

NCAA Football: California at San Diego State Jake Roth-USA TODAY Sports

The final pick of the 2018 NFL Draft for the Minnesota Vikings is in, and they have gotten themselves a linebacker to round things out.

With the 225th pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, the Minnesota Vikings have selected Devante Downs, a linebacker from California-Berkeley.

Downs suffered a season-ending knee injury against the Washington State back in October, but prior to that was pretty much the heart of the Cal defense. He was leading the Pac-12 in tackles at the time of his injury, and also had three sacks and two interceptions in the seven games he played prior to his injury. He also managed to be named Pac-12 Player of the Week twice in the seven games he was healthy for.

Depending on how his progress from his knee injury is coming, Downs is the sort of player that could immediately contribute as a special teamer for the Vikings, and has significant upside beyond that.

With that, the 2018 NFL Draft is officially over for the Minnesota Vikings. Thank you all, once again, for getting all of your coverage of this year’s NFL Draft right here at The Daily Norseman!
