Why The Vikings Are Primed To Be A Force This Season

We all suffered through the heartache of knowing that a phenomenal season was coming to an end, our Super Bowl hopes dashed yet again by the New Orleans Saints. We all rejoiced and maybe even shed tears when Case Keenum and Stefon Diggs did the impossible, putting the ball in the end zone as time ticked off the clock.

And yes, we all came crashing down to earth the next week when putting the nail in the coffin for the Vikings season, showing that the Super Bowl dreams weren't meant to be, and we'd have to watch someone else with a championship in the Vikings' stadium.

However, Vikings fans should go into the 2018-19 season with all the optimism in the world. This season is primed to be one of the best chances that the Vikings have had in years to bring home their first championship.

Let's take a look at why.

1. The Team Overachieved Last Year And Was Still Dominant

Never lose sight of the fact that the Vikings were a game away from the Super Bowl last season with a third-string journey quarterback under center.

Plus, they lost their burgeoning star rookie running back Dalvin Cook, who was making a serious case for Rookie of the Year before tearing up his knee. With Cook back and hungry, the Vikings offense is going to have more dimensions than it did before.

GM Rick Spielman went so far as to compare Cook's ACL recovery to the bounce back Adrian Peterson made after tearing his knee, which included an MVP comeback in which he was just a few yards shy of the single-season rushing record.

With the offense taking on a new form under new signee Kirk Cousins, who has all the tools he needs around him to put up numbers that justify his record contract, expect the Vikings offense to be a huge threat.

2. The Players And Organization Believe In Mike Zimmer

It's abundantly clear when a team buys into its coach. The Vikings have a level of reverence for their head coach, and this is felt both on the field and in the front office.

This is evident on how on the same page Zimmer and Spielman are, making sure that they put their heads together to bring in players with the best talent, work ethic and character. This is the reason that the Vikings have been able to find diamonds in the rough year in and year out.

His clout and experience have been key in not only getting the most out of his defensive players but attracting top free agents from other teams.

3. Expect Spielman To Work His Draft Magic

Spielman lives for the draft, and it shows. He always finds a way to trade and acquire more draft picks, making moves to get the guy they want.

Expect this draft to be no different. They're a solid draft away from rounding out a roster that has a scary array of high-level players at nearly every position. Thanks to good drafts, developing their players and making offseason moves, the Vikings will go into the season with Kirk Cousins, Dalvin Cook, Adam Thielen, Stefon Diggs, Kyle Rudolph and a very skilled offensive line. On defense, they'll have threats all over with Sheldon Richardson, Everson Griffen, Anthony Barr, Eric Kendricks, Harrison Smith, and Xavier Rhodes.

Simply put, while last season ended on a heartbreaking note, make no mistake that the Vikings are poised to return better than ever, with the best Super Bowl window they've had in a very long time.
