NCAA Football: SEC Championship-Georgia vs Auburn Marvin Gentry-USA TODAY Sports

It’s a little later in the day than I like to get it out there, but this week’s version of our 2018 Minnesota Vikings Mock Draft Database is hot off the press and waiting for you to check out. This week, we’re up to 90 mocks from across the internet, and we’ve weeded out some of the older ones, so it should be a much more accurate reflection of what pundits around the internet are projecting for our favorite team this time around.

With that, here are all of the mocks that make up our Database for this week.

Yes, the offensive line is still absolutely destroying all of the other position groups by a wide margin, getting more selections than all of the other position groups combined.

Of the 90 mocks in our Database this week, 65 of them (72.2%) are projecting an offensive lineman to the Vikings with the 30th overall selection. As he has for the past few weeks, Texas-El Paso guard Will Hernandez is dominating the field, as his lead is now nearly 3-to-1 over the next-highest projected lineman. He appears in our Database 24 times this week (26.7%), while Ohio State offensive lineman Billy Price continues to hold down the second spot with just nine selections (10%). Georgia guard Isaiah Wynn had a decent showing this week, pushing up into third place among the linemen with seven selections (7.8%).

Texas tackle Connor Williams and UCLA tackle Kolton Miller are both just behind Wynn this week, with each of them grabbing six selections (6.7%). Behind them are Iowa center James Daniels and Notre Dame offensive tackle Mike McGlinchey, each of whom appear four times in the Database this week (4.4%). Oklahoma tackle Orlando Brown fell off a bit this week, as he appears just three times (3.3%). We also have two new offensive linemen in our Database this week, as Mississippi State offensive tackle Martinas Rankin and Oregon offensive tackle Tyrell Crosby each appear once in our Database (1.1%). Ohio State offensive lineman Jamarco Jones dropped out of the Database for this week.

The second-highest position group is now the defensive backs, as the defensive linemen dropped off significantly this week. Defensive backs account for 14 selections in this week’s Database (15.6%), more than doubling the defensive line for this week. Nearly half of those picks belong to Central Florida cornerback Mike Hughes, who leads the defensive backs once again. He appears six times this week (6.7%). Louisville cornerback Jaire Alexander is second among the defensive backs this week with three selections (3.3%). Two other corners garnered multiple selections this week, as Iowa cornerback Josh Jackson and Colorado cornerback Isaiah Oliver (a re-entry into the Database this week) both appear twice (2.2%). Louisiana State cornerback Donte Jackson rounds things out with one selection this week (1.1%), as both Auburn cornerback Carlton Davis and Florida State safety Derwin James drop out of our Database for this week.

As mentioned, the defensive linemen suffered a huge drop-off this week, as they account for only six of the 90 selections in this week’s Database (6.7%). In fact, no defensive lineman picked up multiple selections this week, as six different defensive linemen split the six selections. They are:

  • Michigan defensive tackle Maurice Hurst
  • Stanford defensive tackle Harrison Phillips
  • Alabama defensive tackle Da’Ron Payne
  • North Carolina State defensive tackle B.J. Hill
  • Ohio State defensive end Sam Hubbard
  • Boston College defensive end Harold Landry

Several defensive linemen dropped out of our Database completely this week, including Florida defensive tackle Taven Bryan, who was right there with Hurst most weeks. We also say goodbye to Louisiana State defensive end Arden Key and Washington defensive tackle Vita Vea.

The linebackers held steady for this week, with both Boise State linebacker Leighton Vander Esch and Georgia linebacker Lorenzo Carter hanging on to their one pick each from last week (1.1% each).

We have just two pass catchers in the Database for this week, but we do have one new name among them. South Dakota State tight end Dallas Goedert held steady with his one selection from last week (1.1%), but this week he is joined by Notre Dame wide receiver Equanimeous St. Brown, who appears for the first time with one selection (1.1%). Penn State tight end Mike Gesicki has dropped out of the Database for this week.

And, yes, last but not least, Georgia running back Nick Chubb continues to hold it down for his position, holding steady with one selection (1.1%).

With the new additions this week, we’ve now had 38 different names projected to the Minnesota Vikings at the #30 overall pick in this year’s NFL Draft. I’m not sure how many more new or different names can be put in that spot, but there are still a few more of these to go before Draft Day.

So, let’s move on to the graphics, starting with this week’s Donut Graph. Again, it’s dominated by the color purple, as that represents the offensive linemen in this year’s Database.

As always, you may click to embiggen the picture.

You can also do that with this week’s Jell-o Salad Graph, which shows how players have risen and fallen from week to week. Once again, you can see the purple really starting to crowd out the rest of the colors on the graph.

It seems pretty obvious. . .and has for some time. . .where the focus of the Minnesota Vikings should be in the 2018 NFL Draft. Is that what Rick Spielman and company are actually going to do? We’re less than three weeks away from finding out.

Next week, we will max things out at 100 Mock Drafts, all focused on the Minnesota Vikings and the direction the team will take here in a few weeks. Enjoy this week’s Database, folks!
