The 8th annual “will Sherels make the roster” phase of the off-season has begun!

Happy Tuesday, everyone!

I hope you all took advantage yesterday, and were able to savor the day. Monday only comes once a week, you have to enjoy it while it’s here, because it’s gone before you know it. Only 6 more days ‘til next Monday though, we’ll make it.

Around the DN since our last open thread:

Luft Krigare posted Good Morning Gjallarhorn Episode 003 - The Grading System.

The Vikings are to induct former head coach, Dennis Green, into the Vikings Ring of Honor. You can’t help but wonder “what might have been” for Coach Green and that loaded offense if the ‘99 NFCCG would have turned out how it was supposed to.

In the NFL Top 100, Everson Griffen made the top 20, as he came in at number 19, per Chris.

From Chris, the Vikings PR staff was selected as the winner of the Pete Rozelle Award by the Pro Football Writers of America.

It’s that time of the Vikings off-season, folks! Skelly10 kicks off the Eighth Annual “Will Marcus Sherels Make the Vikings Roster” phase. This year, Mike Hughes looks to dethrone the reigning champion. I know, I know, it looks like Hughes should have it in the bag. Youth, speed, all that jazz, but you’ll remember some of the prior contestants, and the talent advantage everyone said they had. You’ll also remember how Sherels somehow powered through them in the preseason and left nothing but a vapor trail and a shocked rookie in his wake.

Can Hughes topple the mighty, indestructible Sherels? Time will tell, but I’m not betting against the guy anymore. Honestly, I can see myself, 50 years from now, on my death bed. I wheeze/cough a huge laugh at my great-grandchildren as they tell me “I don’t think Sherels will make the team this year. I mean, he’s 81 years old, and this new draft pick looks really good”. Kids, they’ll learn.

Vikings news from other sources and news from around the NFL:

At Vikings.com, see Everson Griffen announced at #19 in the NFL Top 100, and see/hear Latavius Murray wired for sound at OTAs.

SI.com speculates on the potential battle for the Browns starting QB position. They note that it takes a while for Jackson to settle on a QB. I’ve noticed that it’s also taken Jackson a while to compile two regular season wins for the Browns, but I’m thinking he’ll get ol’ number two this year.

This is a little old, but I hadn’t seen it. Norv Turner and the Panthers want Cam to know that “checking down is okay”, per NFL.com. Hmmmm, we remember the dynamic duo of Kalil/Turner from their time here. What they call checking down is more like heaving a prayer while fleeing for your life, but I suppose that’s just a difference in terminology.

We come to today’s media selection:

Thanks to my amigo from over yonder, Tor66, for today’s media selection. Our distant cousin-team from Austria, the Vienna Vikings (no relation to Vienna sausages, I’m told), matched up against the Proj. Spielberg Graz Giants (no clue what that means), and they pulled out a tough win. Afterwards, you can see the team celebrate by leading the famed Icelandic War Chant.

Here’s a link to the game, as I’m unsure how to embed video from this particular site.

With that, the beer light is on and the bar is open. Belly up & tie one on. Don’t forget to tip your waitress, & try the tiger meat
