Merry Tuesday, everyone!
Many thanks to just_rob for the save yesterday. My memory doesn’t work well when I mix long drives on extended weekends while squeezing in every last possible minute of fishing. It didn’t even dawn on me that I was supposed to post the thread until about 10:00 am. I can’t imagine how senile I’ll be when I actually get old.
Around the DN since our last open thread:
Adam Schein at NFL.com thinks the NFC North has the top collection of quarterbacks in the league, per Chris. I can’t argue with that. Rodgers, even though I’ll choke and gag writing it, is one of the best in the game, and Matthew Stafford is in the top five or at least top ten. Cousins is right up there, and hopefully will be even better now that he is on a much better team. Chicago...........well, 3 out of four ain’t bad, but they have Slater from Saved by the Bell as QB now, maybe he’ll do as well in football as he did in wrestling.
Also at NFL.com (they’re digging deep, training camp better get here soon), the Vikings have two of the top 10 most “shocking” free agent signings ever.
Gil Brandt places two Vikings in the top ten of his list of all-time best wide receivers, per Chris. Man, it was fun to watch Carter and Moss on the field together back then, then top that off with Jake Reed and Robert Smith. Yikes.
Chris shared the USA Today 2014 re-draft, where they have the Vikings passing on Anthony Barr. Kodiak will be pleased that they addressed the O-line instead, although he’ll be only somewhat pleased, since they neglected to use every draft pick on O-line.
Vikings news from other sources and news from around the league:
Over at Vikings.com, see the guys at NFL Network predict each game on the Vikings schedule (I don’t know why either; to fill air time, I guess), see the piece on NFL Total Access where they discuss how long it will take the Vikings offense to ‘come together’, and there’s lots more to look through in the media vault.
Over at the Star Tribune, they look at holes that need to be filled on the Vikings ‘two-tiered’ roster.
Tight end Trey Burton says he sees ‘a ton of similarities’ between the Bears and the Eagles, per NFL.com. Yeah, both teams wear helmets, both teams wear pads, they kinda play the same game (although one team plays it much better). I’m not sure there are a ton of similarities, but I suppose there are a few. How much does each similarity weigh? I’m guessing it would take a lot of them to weigh a ton, but I’m pretty sure they don’t have any weight. Trey must not have fact checked that stat before throwing it out there.
Free agent Brandon Pettigrew (you’ll remember him from his disappointing years with the Lions) is accused of punching a police officer and other charges, per The Sporting News. It all started when Pettigrew refused to pay for a $97 limo ride. I’m guessing he’ll wind up paying much more for the ride in the police cruiser, and those seats aren’t comfortable, so he should have just paid for the limo ride, IMO. What is it with drunk football players and their resistance to paying for cab rides & limo rides? I don’t get it.
We come to today’s media selection:
This is one that kiddo likes now, because it apparently was on one of the Cars movies, and he’s obsessed with those movies, especially Cars 3. At least it’s some good 80s music, enjoy!
Again, we all know the rules, but in case someone is new:
- No discussion of politics or religion
- No feeding of the trolls
- This isn’t a male version of The View, so leave the gender hatred at the door
- Keep the bad language to a minimum (using the spoiler tags, if you must
- Speaking of which, if discussing a newer show or movie, please use spoiler tags
- No pictures that could get someone fired or in serious trouble with their employer
- If you can’t disagree in a civil manner, feel free to go away
- While navigating the open thread, just assume anything you read is sarcasm
With that, the beer light is on and the bar is open. Belly up & tie one on. Don’t forget to tip your waitress, & try the head cheese
