A week ago, we asked everyone what their first purchase would be if they were the #1 overall pick in the NFL Draft. When we posed this question on social media, the overwhelming answer was some form of “I’D BUY MY MAMA A HOUSE!” (So much so that we had to put a caveat on the question when we posted it here on the main site.) Because, you know, that’s what you should do when you come into that sort of money, right?
Well, Minnesota Vikings rookie cornerback Mike Hughes might not have been the #1 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. . .and we should hope that the Vikings never pick in the #1 spot again. . .but after signing his first NFL contract on Thursday, “buy Mama a house” is precisely what Hughes did.

According to an interview that Hughes did after he was selected, buying a house for his mother with his first NFL paycheck has been the plan all along. As far as what else he plans on buying? Well, from what he told Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press. . .not much.
“Other than getting my mom a new house, I plan to save money,” Hughes said.
Mike Hughes has already fulfilled what might be the biggest promise he ever makes. Here’s hoping that he also fulfills his immense promise on the football field while he’s wearing Vikings purple.
