Happy Tuesday, everyone!
It’s the day before July 4th, and I imagine that there are quite a few who are burning a little PTO to make it a 5-day mini-vacation. I know I am, we’re heading out to Montana after I get off work, & will be up in the mountains with no cell service and lots of time to fish, ride four wheeler, and relax. I love going up there.
Around the DN since our last open thread:
Mike Zimmer made another top 10 NFL coaches list, per Chris. This is much deserved, IMO. Zimmer took over a team with a lot of holes and a defense that had been performing dreadfully awful. In a remarkably short period of time, he transformed the defense from worst in the league to one of the best, and brought out the best in the talent that was here.
Two familiar faces to Vikings fans, Brad Childress and Mike Singletary, have both been named as head coaches in the Alliance of American Football. I’m sure everyone remembers Brad Childress, but some may forget Singletary’s time here. He was hired by Les Frazier, but I’m not sure exactly what his role was, and I don’t think anyone else knows either.
I’m not sure if he ever quit, was fired, or if he just stopped coming to work. I guess it doesn’t matter.
Vikings news from other sources and news from around the league:

We come to today’s media selection:
There are a lot of great songs that are fitting for Independence Day (and the day before, since most of you won’t be here tomorrow), but most of them have been WAY overplayed. Here’s one that’s fitting & hasn’t been overplayed. This is Eighth of November from Big & Rich, enjoy!
Again, we all know the rules, but in case someone is new:
- No discussion of politics or religion
- No feeding of the trolls
- This isn’t a male version of The View, so leave the gender hatred at the door
- Keep the bad language to a minimum (using the spoiler tags, if you must
- Speaking of which, if discussing a newer show or movie, please use spoiler tags
- No pictures that could get someone fired or in serious trouble with their employer
- If you can’t disagree in a civil manner, feel free to go away
- While navigating the open thread, just assume anything you read is sarcasm
With that, the beer light is on and the bar is open. Belly up & tie one on. Don’t forget to tip your waitress, & try the head cheese
