Vikings at Broncos Preseason 2018: Key information and Open Thread

Football! Is! BACK! (Sorta!)

FOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT. . .

takes deep breath

BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALL!!

Yes, folks, we have finally made it to something that nearly resembles actual, meaningful football. It’s the preseason opener for the Minnesota Vikings, as they are in the Mile High City this evening to take on the Denver Broncos. This will serve as the Open Thread for the first half (since I’m not sure how many comments we’re going to get for a preseason game on a Saturday night), and we’ll have a second half thread up later on, so keep your eyes open for that.

(Yes, I anticipate that we’re going to have separate threads for each quarter during the regular season.)

Here is everything important you need for tonight’s contest:

Time: Saturday, 11 August, 8:00 PM Central

Location: Mile High Stadium, Denver, Colorado

Television coverage: KMSP-9 (along with other channels you can find here), NFL Network

Radio Coverage: KFAN-FM 100.3 (along with other Vikings Radio Network affiliates), Sirius Channel 134, XM Channel 225

Line: Vikings -1, Over/Under 36.5, and why the hell are you betting on preseason football?

Prediction: Honestly, I don’t care. It’s preseason. Results don’t matter.

Three keys

  1. No significant injuries - Honestly, you can probably ignore 2 and 3. This is the most important part of any preseason game.
  2. How does the new offense look? - Dalvin Cook is back, Kirk Cousins is pulling the trigger, John DeFilippo is calling the plays, and the offensive line has. . .ummm, “issues.” It will only be for a series or two at the most, but it will be interesting to see how it all goes.
  3. Who will make their move? - I’m guessing that about three-fourths of this game is going to be played by guys that are fighting for their football futures. Who will make a big impression? Who will take a step back?
