One of the local guys that was trying to make the Minnesota Vikings’ roster as an undrafted free agent is going to have to take a slightly longer route to get there.
Jake Wieneke, the South Dakota State product that played his high school ball at Maple Grove and signed with the Vikings as an undrafted free agent, has been released by the team.
Wieneke had some solid highlights in his first NFL preseason. His biggest game came against the Seattle Seahawks in the All-Important Third Preseason Game™ when he caught a touchdown pass from Kyle Sloter and then bulled his way in for the winning two-point conversion with less than a minute remaining in the game.
Wieneke could be a candidate to make his way to the practice squad for the Vikings, but there aren’t any shortage of those in Minnesota at this point, either.
We will continue bringing you all of the cuts from the Minnesota Vikings as they approach the 3:00 PM Central deadline on Saturday to have their roster down to 53 players.
