Good Morning!

By the time you’re reading this I was supposed to have the next four days off to go hunting in South Carolina, but instead Mother Nature took a giant deuce on my plans in the form of Hurricane Florence, so I’ll be a work and more irritable than usual. Speaking of the hurricane, if you’re in the path (or potentially in the path) I hope you have your hurricane supplies ready and if appropriate, have evacuated. Having been through two Super Typhoons while I was in Okinawa listening to the wind whistle by at 150mph isn’t a great time. In the meantime, while we’re waiting for the next Vikings game to start we’ll continue with our daily thread full of beer recommendations, nap strategies, crock pot and smoker recipes. Have another cup of coffee and drop by for some fan wisdom and snark. With that, let’s do this.

Around the DN since our last thread:

Kirk Cousins is not who you think he is, by Ted. Since I’m not sure if this is a parody, I’m going to take an IQ test.

Skelly10 writes that WR Stefon Diggs bought a 15k Starbucks diamond chain and Aaron Rodgers will not practice Wednesday, status for Sunday against Vikings is unknown.

Who is the NFC Defensive Player of the Week? Lucas tells us it’s Harrison Smith.

Vikings’ NFC North Rivals: News and Notes, Week 2 by Dan.

Roughing the Podcast episode 52 has assigned seating and no one is happy where Ted and Di talk 49ers, Packers Week, season predictions, and answer listener questions.

Vikings news from other sources:

From DE Everson Griffen was wired for sound during the game against the 49ers.

Five Vikings-Packers story lines to follow during the game.

State of 8: QB Kirk Cousins on playing the Packers, RB Dalvin Cook’s versatility.

From their lunch break series: WR Stefon Diggs elite route running helped against DB Richard Sherman.

From the Players Tribune: Xavier Rhodes tells us who the best 7 players are in the NFC North.

League news:

Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski on CB Jalen Ramsey’s barbs: Talking trash “not my focus.”

WR Martavis Bryant rejoins Raiders on one-year deal.

Bills rookie QB Josh Allen named the starter v. the Chargers.

Giants DB Landon Collins says forcing the Cowboys to make Dak Prescott pass provides the Giants a better opportunity to win.

We come to today’s media selection: The Cars-You’re All I’ve Got Tonight

Again, we all know the rules, but in case someone is new:
-No discussion of politics or religion
-No feeding of the trolls
-This isn’t a male version of The View, so leave the gender hatred at the door
-Keep the bad language to a minimum (using the spoiler tags, if you must)
-Speaking of which, if discussing a newer show or movie, please use spoiler tags
-No pictures that could get someone fired or in serious trouble with their employer
-If you can’t disagree in a civil manner, feel free to go away
-While navigating the open thread, just assume it’s sarcasm.
