The team needed a linebacker for Sunday

With the Minnesota Vikings dealing with injury issues at linebacker, they made a roster move on Saturday to fill that gap.

The team has promoted linebacker Cameron Smith from the practice squad leading up to Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles. To make room on the 53-man roster, they waived wide receiver Davion Davis.

Smith was the Vikings’ fifth-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft out of the University of Southern California. He was one of just two of the Vikings’ 2019 draft choices to not make the big club, but was signed to the practice squad after the final cuts were made.

Smith has been bumped up to the big roster because the team will be without both Kentrell Brothers (wrist/hamstring) and Ben Gedeon (concussion) this weekend against Philadelphia. He is active today, so he will likely be making his NFL debut this afternoon.

We’re a little more than an hour away from kickoff, folks. Come hang out with us for all of the action from U.S. Bank Stadium today!
