#MINvsNYG injury report— Minnesota Vikings (@Vikings) October 4, 2019
OUT: Mackensie Alexander and Kentrell Brothers
Yeah, it’s news, but it’s not THE news right now. What’s the status on Stefon Diggs?
Well, since he’s not on the final injury report, it would appear he’s over his...ahem...cold, and should be available to play. But the question is, will he? Well, Mike Zimmer was asked THAT VERY THING DEAR READER:
Will Stefon Diggs play Sunday?— Chad Graff (@ChadGraff) October 4, 2019
Mike Zimmer: “I don’t know. We’ll see.”
Would he not play as punishment for skipping practice?
Zimmer: “He’s already been punished.”
Will Stefon Diggs play this week?— Courtney Cronin (@CourtneyRCronin) October 4, 2019
Zimmer: “I don’t know. We’ll see.”
Did he look like himself in practice?
Zimmer: “I have to watch the tape.”
What are you basing his availability on?
Zimmer: “We’re going to watch the tape.”
Sigh...one of the things I have really enjoyed about the Mike Zimmer era is that, for the most part, there has been little in-season player drama like this. I don’t know why it’s coming up now, but I will say if they don’t play Diggs on Sunday it would be cutting off their nose to spite their face.
So, as Zimmer says, we’ll see what happens. But for what it’s worth, this ‘we’ll see’ gamesmanship comes off as a bit bush league, but that’s just me. And seriously, you’re gonna watch the tape? Really? Is Zim getting tips from Leslie Frazier on how to handle press conferences now? So lame.
As to the Giants, it looks like the big news for them is Saquon Barkley’s status, and he won’t play:
it looked like earlier in the week he might, as there was video of him practicing and looking remarkably well for a guy that just suffered a serious ankle sprain. But with a big Thursday game coming up after the Vikes game, keeping him out probably makes the most sense.
Also, Saquon Barkley is a human specimen of a man. I would not want to have to tackle him.
