UPDATE: Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press has some clarification on what happened to Brett Jones that necessitated his move to IR.
#Vikings center Brett Jones suffered a torn MCL in practice Wednesday when a defensive lineman unintentionally fell on him. He had also been working at guard with the expectation of dressing out Sunday because Josh Kline (concussion) isn't expected to play. Jones to IR today.

On Thursday morning, the Minnesota Vikings made several roster moves, most of which involved the offensive line.
First off, the Vikings have placed offensive lineman Brett Jones on the injured reserve list, which will end his 2019 season. Jones had been released before the season opener, but the team brought him back. Jones has been inactive for the majority of the Vikings’ games this season, having appeared in just two games. The roster page on the Vikings’ website has Jones listed as “designated for return,” which seems strange to me, but we’ll roll with it.
To replace him on the active roster, the Vikings have promoted offensive tackle Aviante Collins from the practice squad. Collins has been with the Vikings since 2017, though he missed all of the 2018 season with a bicep injury and missed camp this year with a back issue. He was released as part of the team’s final cuts, but was brought back to the practice squad.
Moving to the practice squad, the Vikings have brought back wide receiver Davion Davis. . .again. Davis had been on the active roster, and his release had fueled speculation that the Vikings were close to activating wide receiver Josh Doctson, who has been practicing for the past couple of weeks. The Vikings have not made a move to that end yet, but it certainly seems like that’s the way things are trending.
In addition, the Vikings have signed offensive lineman John Keenoy to the practice squad. Keenoy, an undrafted free agent out of Central Michigan, spent the preseason with the Vikings and was released as a part of the final roster cuts.
As of now, with the Davis and Keenoy signings, the Vikings’ practice squad looks like this:
- QB Jake Browning
- WR Davion Davis
- TE Brandon Dillon
- CB Mark Fields
- WR Alexander Hollins
- DE Stacy Keely
- OL John Keenoy
- CB Nate Meadors
- WR Dillon Mitchell
The Vikings still have an open space on the practice squad because yesterday the Tennessee Titans signed fullback Khari Blasingame to their active roster. Blasingame had become a bit of a favorite around here during the preseason, and we hope for the best for him in Tennessee.
