Kirk Cousins and Eric Kendricks? Not so much.

The National Football League announced the rosters for the 2020 Pro Bowl a couple of hours ago, and three members of the Minnesota Vikings that you would expect to make the team did.

Two other players that should have been locks, however, did not.

The league has announced that running back Dalvin Cook, defensive end Danielle Hunter, and safety Harrison Smith have made the initial Pro Bowl roster.

We’ll start with Smith, who has been named a Pro Bowler for the fifth time in his career. This season, he has three interceptions, two forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries. He also has 11 passes defended, which is good for third among all NFL safeties. He will be a starter in the game in Orlando.

Cook will also be a starter, making his first Pro Bowl in what has been his best season in the NFL. He has 1,654 yards from scrimmage this season, which is third in the league. His 13 total touchdowns this season are fifth in the NFL.

Hunter, who is making his second career trip to the Pro Bowl, is having what might be his best season. He’s currently third in the NFL with 13.5 sacks, and has set NFL records this season for the most sacks before the age of 25 and the youngest player to reach the 50-sack plateau.

Two Vikings that were not named to the Pro Bowl squad are quarterback Kirk Cousins and linebacker Eric Kendricks. Both of those omissions are pretty baffling.

Cousins has been having an outstanding season, throwing 25 touchdown passes thus far and only five interceptions. He’s also second in the NFC in passer rating and in completion percentage. He was passed over in favor of Aaron Rodgers, because of course he was.

The snub of Kendricks might be even more egregious. You could easily make the argument that Kendricks has been the most consistent member of the Vikings’ defense all season long, and he’s been getting the job done in coverage and against the run.

But, enough of the negativity. Congratulations to Dalvin Cook, Danielle Hunter, and Harrison Smith on being named to the 2020 Pro Bowl roster.
