Happy Tuesday, everyone!
It’s that time of year again, the season of the mock is upon us. If you love mock drafts, you must feel like you’re in heaven right now (kinda like ABG must feel at one of those Brazilian barbecue places where you get served meat until you explode). There is no real football news, so the current NFL media coverage consists of mocks, mocks, mocks, a mock and, if said mock were to come to fruition, speculation on how that particular mock would impact the lunar cycle, mocks, mocks, aaaaaaaaand a couple more mocks. Oh, and a mock.
Let me put this out there as well, since it seems to be festering. This is a community of sorts, everyone gathers here to have intelligent conversations about football. Well, that’s not true. Everyone gathers here to have conversations, for the most part. It’s a public forum, so everyone is welcome. Moderating the forum is necessary in order to make sure that this place stays relatively peaceful and enjoyable, so that someone else who logs on for the first time will find a similar forum as you did the first time you logged on here; an enjoyable place to chime in about the Vikings, or crock pot recipes, or beer, or whatever. Sometimes someone gets a little out of line or something of the sort, and comments are deleted, warnings are issued, or more, up and to the point of a ban being placed. These actions are not taken hastily, they’re normally a last resort. In fact, with Rob and I, you probably have two of the most laid-back moderators you can find. We probably let more slide than many of you would like us to. So, if someone does get banned, it is safe to say that we have taken many other actions prior to the ban in order to try to help the member stay on board, and we have gently warned, urged, or pleaded with that member to stop doing whatever is causing a disturbance in our peaceful abode. Sometimes, someone who we like personally gets banned. Even though we don’t like that the person is no longer here, we understand why it happened, and we accept that actions are taken in response to comments made, while taking into account the history of the conversation’s participants. I’m sure if you look at the entire picture, you’ll understand why it happened.
If you have a question on how someone’s membership was handled, send an email and I’ll be happy to discuss it. DO NOT pollute the board with whining, crying, grandstanding, or whatever it is that seems to be the standard response. If you honestly have an issue, send an email and I will explain whatever I can. I will honor the privacy of the person in question, so I may not be able to share some information, but I will be happy to explain the ‘why’. I won’t explain it in the comments section, because that isn’t the place for it. If you try to pollute the comments section, I will unpollute the comments section. It won’t work, so don’t try, okay? Great! I’m glad we agree.
Around the DN since our last open thread:
Chris shared Mel Kiper’s mock draft, an O-line focused mock draft that should please Kodiak.
Chris will once again be maintaining a Minnesota Vikings Mock Draft Database, the 2019 version will debut this weekend.
MarkSP18 lays out his Vikings off-season plan. If you visit and want to score some brownie points, make sure you ask him to address the kicker and punter positions via the draft.
NFL regular season football may be returning to ABC for the first time since 2005.
Vikings news from other sources and news from around the rest of the league:
The Star-Tribune reported that there is no evidence to suggest that the team is close to re-signing Anthony Barr.
We come to today’s media selection:
Here’s a clip to commemorate mock season. Enjoy!
Again, we all know the rules, but in case someone is new:
- No discussion of politics or religion
- No feeding of the trolls
- This isn’t a male version of The View, so leave the gender hatred at the door
- Keep the bad language to a minimum (using the spoiler tags, if you must)
- Speaking of which, if discussing a newer show or movie, please use spoiler tags
- No pictures that could get someone fired or in serious trouble with their employer
- If you can’t disagree in a civil manner, feel free to go away
- While navigating the open thread, just assume it’s sarcasm
With that, the beer light is on and the bar is open. Belly up and tie one on. Don’t forget to tip your waitress, and try the head cheese.
