Merry Wednesday, everyone!
We’re at the peak of the week, and as we coast toward another glorious weekend, we have a bit of a bonus waiting for us this weekend, as we have the Combine to look forward to. I’m not sure how much we’re looking forward to it, I don’t intend on being attached to the recliner to watch a three-day track meet, but at least it’s something football related to have on the TV while we go through our regular weekend routine. It’s still WAY below zero here, so I’m going to focus on avoiding the cold as much as humanly possible. You’ll never hear me complain about the heat, but I start to grumble when we’re in our 4th or 5th month of winter, and it’s still sub-zero. I’m ready for summer. I do get to go to South Carolina next week for a meeting/conference thing, so that will be a much welcomed reprieve from the weather here in Antarctica.
Around the DN since our last open thread:
Chris shared a rumor coming out of Colorado that says the Vikings are interested in Billy Turner, an offensive lineman currently with the Broncos. Turner is a Minnesota native, but more importantly, played football at NDSU. Therefore, I’m all for it.
From Chris, in an interview with Courtney Cronin at ESPN, Latavius Murray stated that he’s looking for a starting role. I don’t think he’ll get that role with the Vikings, but he’s been a solid 2nd back in his time here. It would be nice to be able to keep him, but it’s looking like that may be difficult.
Another member of the Vikings secondary got some praise from PFF, as they named Mackensie Alexander the Vikings’ most improved player.
Vikings news from elsewhere and news from around the league:
Vikings.com lists 5 Vikings storylines at the 2019 NFL Scouting Combine.
Well, that didn’t last long. Randy Gregory has been suspended.....again, per NFL.com. This time he is suspended indefinitely (which means he may be reinstated tonight, or he may be put on double-secret proabation until he’s 84 years old, it really depends where the wheel lands) for violating the league’s substance abuse policy. I wonder if there is a video of him abusing a substance?
The competition committee met once more to consider the use of replay review (still trying to silence the hypocritical whiny bleating of Saints fans), but NFL.com reported that it doesn’t appear the committee plans to make any changes.
We come to today’s media selection:
You all know the Minneapolis miracle, well here is the 1980 version, the Miracle at the Met. This is one of my first memories of the Vikings, at the beginning of my Vikings fanhood, which has not waned one bit in almost 40 years. Enjoy!
Again, we all know the rules, but in case someone is new:
- No discussion of politics or religion
- No feeding of the trolls
- This isn’t a male version of The View, so leave the gender hatred at the door
- Keep the bad language to a minimum (using the spoiler tags, if you must)
- Speaking of which, if discussing a newer show or movie, please use spoiler tags
- No pictures that could get someone fired or in serious trouble with their employer
- If you can’t disagree in a civil manner, feel free to go away
- While navigating the open thread, just assume it’s sarcasm
With that, the beer light is on and the bar is open. Belly up and tie one on. Don’t forget to tip your waitress, and try the spandex.
