The NFL Draft looms, not-so-far off on the horizon

Merry Monday, everyone!

I hope you all had an enjoyable and relaxing weekend. I had a good weekend, it was our first taste of non-arctic temperatures in what seems like forever, so we were outside quite a bit. Kiddo wanted to have a campfire, and although it wasn’t typical campfire weather, it sounded like a great idea. So, I dug through the snowdrift and found our firepit, dug it out (out of the four-foot snowdrift, I was able to carve out a pretty cool sectional-type seat around the pit, I’ll have to post pictures in the comments unless I manage to find my phone before I post this). So, we had a campfire Saturday and Sunday, with s’mores, of course. I also made a prime rib on the smoker yesterday, it was as amazing as it always is. Yum yum.

Around the DN since our last open thread:

Saxyprince was featured on the North Star Podcast.

Chris churned out version 3.0 of the 2019 Minnesota Vikings Mock Draft Database.

Chris put to rest the rumor that had the Vikings trading Diggs to Washington.

He also shared some rumors about the O-line, Easton was to decide Monday (but pulled the trigger a day early), and the Vikings are to speak with Josh Kline (no relation to Calvin, I’m told).

As I mentioned above, Nick Easton is to sign with the Saints, per Chris.

Keep up on all the latest moves on the MN Vikings Free Agency Tracker.

Vikings news from other sources and news from around the rest of the NFL:

ESPN has a league-wide free-agency tracker to keep you up-to-speed.

From the Sporting News, Russell Wilson sees ‘great potential’ that he could become the NFL’s highest paid player. He said this on the Jimmy Falcon show (a talk show of some sort, I’m told), I’m guessing there’s great potential that the Seahawks GM needed some Pepto if he was listening to the show at the time.

Also from the Sporting News, here is what to know about Johnny Manziel’s AAF contract with the Memphis Express.

We come to today’s media selection.

That last story gave me the idea for today’s selection. For my generation, there were a lot of great comedians, and Eddie Murphy was one of the best. This is his bit on the ice cream man. WARNING: NSFW LANGUAGE: THIS IS EDDIE MURPHY IN THE 1980s, THERE IS LOTS OF CURSING. Enjoy!

Again, we all know the rules, but in case someone is new:

  • No discussion of politics or religion
  • No feeding of the trolls
  • This isn’t a male version of The View, so leave the gender hatred at the door
  • Keep the bad language to a minimum (using the spoiler tags, if you must)
  • Speaking of which, if discussing a newer show or movie, please use spoiler tags
  • No pictures that could get someone fired or in serious trouble with their employer
  • If you can’t disagree in a civil manner, feel free to go away
  • While navigating the open thread, just assume it’s sarcasm

With that, the beer light is on and the bar is open. Belly up and tie one on. Don’t forget to tip your waitress, and try the panic and hysteria.
