Happy Thirsty Thorsday, everyone!

Hey, this is the first time I’ve gotten to post on a Thursd.....ummm....... on a Thorsday in quite a while. Man, I haven’t gotten a chance to log on in quite a while, either. I’ll bet I can get fairly close if I use my vast previous DN experience to generate an estimate of recent activity. Here goes. I’m going to guess that about 13 of the audience is freaking out that the Vikings haven’t done more in free agency, and are predicting doom, gloom, blood, and mayhem for the upcoming season. Another 13 of the audience is predicting a Super Bowl run. The final 13 spend your time on the DN being entertained by 1) watching the two opposing factions getting into heated, endless debates, and 2) throwing in a comment to get them arguing again on the off-chance that they stop arguing. Am I close? Dammit, I miss being on here, I need to make it a point to log on & get my daily dose at least once a day.

Around the DN since our last open thread:

Ted has worked his way up to Game 5 of The Greatest Playoff Win of All-Time tournament.

Wludford tells us why Pat Elflein needs serious competition at center. Looking at the roster, I’m wondering if he’ll have any competition at all for the spot.

Chris is maintaining the Vikings free agency tracker, and I see he updated recently.

Vikings news from other sources and news from around the rest of the NFL:

From Vikings.com, Mark Wilf explains the ‘great belief’ he has in the Spielman/Zimmer team. I agree with him on Zim, but my opinion of Rick is not as high as it was a little over a year ago.

From PFT, NFL Operations tells whiny fans points out that the Saints also benefited from a big interference call.

A big rule change now has pass interference as a reviewable play, per USA Today. If that rule would have been in place for the past 10 years, I wonder if Aaron Rodgers would be ranked as highly as he is among the league’s QBs.

We come to today’s media selection:

In case you missed it, Chris posted a pretty awesome video of the 50 greatest plays of the Mike Zimmer era, and here it is. Enjoy!

Again, we all know the rules, but in case someone is new:

  • No discussion of politics or religion
  • No feeding of the trolls
  • This isn’t a male version of The View, so leave the gender hatred at the door
  • Keep the bad language to a minimum (using the spoiler tags, if you must)
  • Speaking of which, if discussing a newer show or movie, please use spoiler tags
  • No pictures that could get someone fired or in serious trouble with their employer
  • If you can’t disagree in a civil manner, feel free to go away
  • While navigating the open thread, just assume it’s sarcasm

With that, the beer light is on and the bar is open. Belly up and tie one on. Don’t forget to tip your waitress, and try the sarcasm, it’s our specialty.
