The Vikings have made another move in free agency - this time re-signing Brett Jones, who played center for the first few weeks last season for the Viking while Pat Elflein was on the PUP list.
Jones allowed a total of five pressures over his three games as a starter last year, including one QB hit and four hurries, and no sacks, according to Pro Football Focus. His pass protection grade (70.3) was better than his run blocking grade (46.5), and both were better grades than Pat Elflein had last season (44.3 grades for both run and pass blocking).
In his last full season as a starter - in 2017 for the New York Giants - Jones had a 68.6 overall grade, including an 82.1 pass blocking grade, and a 60.0 run blocking grade.
Chris Tomasson reports the terms of the deal:
Source says that #Vikings signed center Brett Jones to a one-year deal that could be worth as much as $1.5 million with incentives. Base salary of about $850,000. Signing bonus of about $100,000.

Tomasson also reports:
Center Brett Jones, re-signed by #Vikings, also received in free agency interest from Kansas City, Philadelphia, Seattle & N.Y. Jets He wanted to do just a 1-year deal (worth up to $1.5 million with incentives) to keep his options open in free agency next year as possible starter

With Pat Elflein having a poor season last year, having Jones in the mix at center could offer the Vikings an alternative if Elflein fails to improve his game. Jones can play guard or center, but all of his most recent starting experience has been at center.
