2019 NFL Draft Results: Minnesota Vikings select Cameron Smith

The Vikings get themselves a linebacker

After yet another trade down, the Minnesota Vikings have made their fifth-round selection in the 2019 NFL Draft, and they’ve finally selected a player on the defensive side of the ball.

With the 162nd pick of the 2019 NFL Draft, the Minnesota Vikings have selected Cameron Smith, a linebacker from the University of Southern California.

Lance Zierlein of NFL.com had a fourth or fifth-round grade on Smith, comparing him to current Green Bay Packers’ linebacker Blake Martinez. Here’s what he has to say about him.

Inside linebacker whose four-year run can best be described as smart and steady. Smith is lacking the physical traits and athletic ability to excite general managers and his tape is hardly splashy. However, he has a keen sense of play development and uses smart angles and proper technique to do his job effectively. He could hear his name called in the middle rounds, but it won’t take long for a coaching staff to look beyond his limitations and see a future starter.

Sounds like a solid pick for the Vikings to me!

Welcome to Minnesota, Cameron Smith!
