Happy happy Monday, and happy belated Mother’s Day!
I hope all of you had a great weekend, especially the moms, I hope you were treated especially well by your families yesterday. We had a nice and relaxing weekend at our place. My wife and I have been running wide open for far too long, so Mrs. Fishin’ and I both took the weekend off from doing anything work-related, and we just hung out as a family and just relaxed and did whatever we felt like doing. Saturday was rainy, so we moved some items from our indoor to-do list to the indoor to-done list. Sunday was beautiful, so after kiddo and I did a couple things for my wife in the morning, we were outside enjoying the sun. Little Fishin’ and I got up and played Legos, then did a little house cleaning and let my wife sleep in, then we made breakfast and took it in to her (he insisted on cereal and pancakes, HIS favorite, but I also made some awesome buttermilk sausage links from our local butcher shop). After that, we all cleaned up our garden to get it ready for planting, and I rented a power rake and gave my lawn a much needed de-thatching. With how much dead grass I hauled out, I’m amazed there is any grass left, but it looks great. We topped off the day with a family picnic at our daughter’s resting place. No work, no distractions, it was great. We need to do that more often.
Around the DN since our last open thread:
Dillon Mitchell’s father gave the Vikings a thank you for drafting his son, per Chris. Hey, someone gives my son a contract for 7 figures, I’ll thank them. Heck, I might even buy them a beer (as long as it isn’t an IPA).
From Chris, Daniel Jeremiah seems to be fond of this last draft by the Vikings.
Trae Waynes and Jeff Badet plan to participate in the new NFL fastest man competition.
Other Vikings/NFL news, other sports news, and random oddities and annoyances:
From NBC Sports, Jay Cutler may open a butcher shop, something he has been considering for a while as he enjoys his post-NFL life.
From the Sporting News, the Dolphins have signed RB Mark Walton, despite the fact that Walton has been arrested three times during the offseason and was cut by the Bengals.
JuJu Smith-Schuster promoted some free fun in Pittsburgh, as he hosted a community water balloon fight, per the Sporting News.
We come to today’s media selection:
Here’s a video with footage of the water balloon fight that JuJu Smith-Schuster hosted in Pittsburgh. There may be some NSFW words in some of the music playing from time to time in the video. I’m not sure, I couldn’t listen for very long, and I didn’t understand most of what I heard. They used that weird machine that makes the singer’s voice all weird, like he’s an alien or something. I don’t get why they do that, I think Cher did that on a song once, too. Odd.
Again, we all know the rules, but in case someone is new:
- No discussion of politics or religion
- No feeding of the trolls
- This isn’t a male version of The View, so leave the gender hatred at the door
- Keep the bad language to a minimum (using the spoiler tags, if you must)
- Speaking of which, if discussing a newer show or movie, please use spoiler tags
- No pictures that could get someone fired or in serious trouble with their employer
- If you can’t disagree in a civil manner, feel free to go away
- While navigating the open thread, just assume it’s sarcasm
With that, the beer light is on and the bar is open. Belly up and tie one on. Don’t forget to tip your waitress, and try the cereal and pancakes.
